Here are some videos I took at Phil Dirts Retirement Party at The Brookdale Lodge, Brookdale California on 10-22-2005. What A blast that was! Sorry I was not too good at video taping! It was the first time I used the video camera.
Thanks

Steve,
Thanks! I was hoping others would enjoy them. The Wronski set was just amazing! I can't describe how I was feeling, but I had goosebumps! It was the second day I had the camera and I did not have too many tapes and was just trying to figure out how it worked, thats why some of sets I only have clips and i only had about 2 tapes for hours and hours of surf rock! if I only knew what i know now! Hye that reminds me ... I need to order another hundred tapes!;-)
Thanks

Ferenc,
You were one of the stars of the evening, but you were probably too busy to enjoy it! You did help organize this event... Right?
Thanks

GREAT STUFF GUY! Thx for posting
I really enjoyed that show at the BROOKDALE LODGE
I have some cool pix somewhere (pre-Flickr days). Maybe if I can unearth 'em, I will package them and add them here
The talent on stage that evening was non-stop top-shelf twangin' surf

Man,
those videos bring back some great road trip memories.
and if you look at all of the videos,
there is one of me and Billy blast off playing(butchering) Jack the Ripper
with the Insects( I had no idea I was so loud,
and out of tune with the rest of the band.
what a train wreck, but a fan one,
see the part mid way, where billy falls on the drums.
classic.
That was a Great night.
thanks for posting the vids Guy.
and thanks to Ferenc for putting that show together, with lots of help I'm sure.

I didn't fall on the drums. I'm certain it was one of the ghosts at Brookdale Lodge that pushed me back!
Bye the way, it's time for another road trip................

I don't know about ghosts but that night was certainly magical! Thanks to everyone involved! By the way I have most of 2004-2005 Phil dirt shows in my iTunes and they are just as good today as they were back then. The only problem I had was drop outs from my ISP so sometimes there are gaps in the shows. I miss his show! Cousin Mary is doing a great job, but I still miss Phil.
Thanks

Well since were on a Phil Dirt groove, here's some pics I took back then. Adrien from Chum was one busy dude that night.

That is indeed an especially wasted version of Jack the Ripper ... I'm glad you were there, Guy. I am loving this whole series.

What happened to the video team that was taping the whole thing? There is a guy with a pro video setup in some of the shots...

Adrien from Chum was one busy dude that night.
Aside from his duties with the SoCal crew, Adrien also backed up the Mach IV, Woodies, and PDM, with no rehearsal, he knew the songs better than we did.

I think that guy worked for KFJC. they also recorded the whole thing. Honestly, I don't think those are tapes anybody wants to hear. The night was more about the party than the performance. It was a great retirement party.
Some random memories of the night--
1- The 'headliner" didn't confirm until 2 days before the show!
2- I posted a message to Cowabunga with the Subject line: "Phil, please don't read this" Which he said was almost impossible to do
3- One band that was invited to play gave me such rock star attitude, that, well, they were dis-invited.
4- I met Danny and Lady Reverb for the first time, possibly USF. And I was amazed that some people had flown in for the show (Guy, USF, at least a couple others).
5-Dave Wronski said he loved my Vibroverb(!)
6- One band wanted to perform past there allotted time, and I had to give them the hook, literally.
7- During The Woodies performance, Rick didn't tell me he invited a keyboard player so Farhan set up his synth in the middle of the song, and plugged in and turned up just in time for the solo.
8- David Arnson realized he left his signature SG in LA.
9- One 'fan" of the Mermen was shouting "Phil Dirt sucks" during their set, but I didn't really get the humor of it.
10- The door guy at the Brookdale Lodge was this craggy old mofo in a wheelchair. As the doors opened he told me he changed the door charge from $12 to $10 because "I ain't gonna sit here and count !#$!&*! dollar bills." I think he was packing a side arm.
11- When we showed up to load in @ 5:30, the Lodge said, "We have a wedding that's running late, you guys can set up at 7" Show time was 8!
12- The Lodge's sound guy kicked ass.
13- The 36x48 show poster signed by all the band members hangs in Dirt's office at Universal Audio.
14- Everybody who came to the show got a free poster and one of Dirt's fans who was a caterer made a huge cake for 200!
15- Taco's in Billy's RV at 3AM.
