What do you use to get that lead sound? ...like on Egpyt Texas. He played a Gibson ES335 didn't he? Do you use any stomp boxes?

Brian Connelly played (and still plays) Gretsch guitars. Don't know about pedals, though.

As far as I know in the Shadowy Men he just played straight into the amp - some sort of blackface Fender, I think.
These days he's playing a White Falcon, mostly, into a Standell, plus a Keeley comp and some sort of tremolo and a Fender outboard reverb, plus I think a Boss DM-2.

Thanks for the info...I'm still trying to get to that beautiful nasty sound. I guess I need to turn the amp up to 11. Ah, Gretsch. I couldn't tell in the video I saw, just looked big and red. Standell is new to me, will check it out.

Standels are pretty pricey.

Actually, I remember Brian playing a Strat, at least in the early days of Shadowy Men, although he's defintely a multiple-Gretsch guy now
I wouldn't be surprised if Good Cop Bad Cop was done on a Strat. The range of the tremolo dips and the tone reminds me of a Strat.
Brian also played a white Jazzmaster for a while.

The opening credits for Kids in the Hall always showed him with a Gretsch.
According to a friend in Toronto, Brian plays every week at a club with his band "Ancient Chinese Secret."
Gonna have to catch him there soon.

He doesn't play every Thursday year round just through the winter at a bar known as The Caddilac Lounge in West Toronto (Queen and Dufferin) Very approachable guy, and worth the trip to the Great White North in the winter to check out.

I have spent my rare Saturday off from playing, laying on the sofa and enjoying season 2 of Kids in the Hall. Oh how I love to hear those opening notes from Shadowy Men. Yes, I had some history with surf/instro music prior to them, but discoverying them through that show really had a huge impact on my future in music.

OFF TOPIC:
Speaking of Kids in the Hall, an interesting interview with Dave Foley on Marc Maron's WTF podcast. I love this podcast, he has amazing interviews and still is able to bring his own neurotic personality into the conversation.
