Has anyone tried a Dr. Z amp for surf sound. I just heard a demo of the EZG50 and the reverb sounded real wet. Any comments?

DR Z's are absolutely the best, nothing better.

I love their reverb but all the audio/video samples I find online are always on an overdrive channel. They arent something I can walk into any store and try out.

What amp would possibly do good deep and sparkly cleans?

In my opinion, Dr. Z designs and builds some of the best hand-wired "boutique" amplifiers on the market. Bang-for-the-buck is high. He really doesn't build clones, but designs his own spins on classic circuits. Up until the development of the EZG50, Dr. Z lacked a Blackface-style 6L6 amp. I haven't played one yet, but I've heard nothing but rave reviews on the EZG50. I would be shocked if it was not one of the best amps out there for surf. Most of his other amps, being more in the tweed, Marshall, or Vox camps, wouldn't be ideal for most people's definition of an acceptable surf tone.

Wow!! Played a Doctor Z EZG-50 yesterday and it's a really cool amp!! Great Dwell and tone built in reverb You don't see that vary often!!! Also 50 watt of power and it will blow your head off!! I'm loving this amp however, it's not cheap! All hand built in the USA at a "Boutique" price point!!! Lot's of demo's on you tube.
