I was browsing the site and I realized that if my band were to submit our album(s) to Phil to get reviewed we would be right after the Ventures. That couldn't be bad for business could it?

Anyways, we don't plan on submitting for a while. Our EP is too low quality for Phil's taste and our studio album is mastered, and sounds amazing, but we don't want to give out too many copies. I think Ivan has pretty much the only copy out there.

Why would you not give a copy to Phil? Shocked

"It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea

Just waiting closer to the release. Oh yeah, and laziness. We are going to try and distance ourselves from the surf labels and such. We want to get our album put out on a non-surf label because we want to bring the genre to other people. Kind of what happened in the mid-90s. we have Wax Orchard records interested. http://www.waxorchard.com

Jake, good luck with that. Keep us posted on how your experience with record labels plays out.

Yeah, good luck Jake. Hopefully a lot of people will get to hear your music.

I know I used to ask about how to get our record released. The big question was label versus putting it out ourselves. I really wanted to do it ourselves just to get the album out. But then I realized a label can do a lot more for us in terms of promotion and getting us shows. Also, it would feel really good to get on a label. And they could help finance out next album.

Just make sure you keep your publishing! I would recommend licensing your CD to them, rather than giving it to them, publishing, copyright, and all.
