I stopped by the House of Stereo, which is an ultra high-end stereo/home theatre store here in Jax. They also started carrying vintage guitars and "65" handcrafted tube amps. Anyway, the owner is a surf fan, and he turned me on to The Vanduras...very sweet. And, being from So Cal I'm sure everyone here knows them.

One of my favorites. I just sold some gear to a Pedal Steel player and we talked about working up a few tunes.

I got the Vandura CD some time ago and just love it...
Just yesterday I came across Brandon's SoundPage links.
I think his stuff is great too. Lotsa reverb, tremelo TicTac bass, etc.
Check this guy out.

I'd kill my ferret if they would record a second album. If I had a ferret. You get the idea.

Nice to see appreciation shown for Gary. He and I had CDs out about the same time on the same label. This was right after The Blue Hawaiians Sway and before In The Dark. He brought his pedal steel to the studio to play on my song The Texas Longboard. It was fun to see him get into the country pickin' n' grinnin'. He's damn good at that too! Take a listen:

Love the Vanduras, and anything that Gary plays in.
Blue Hawaiians, Tikiyaki Orchestra, and his country band.
forget the name now, look at his myspace to find the connection.
They(the Vanduras) are working on a 2nd CD.

Vanduras first CD has been repressed by the band themselves.
if you want one go to their myspace or facebook if they have one.

Loved the Vandura's album and the Jetpack album. Actually for a time back in 2005 I had corresponded with David Pascal while I was the music director at my college radio station. He hooked me up with tons of cool records (Double Naught Spy Car, Blue Hawaiians rarities, Jetpack, Vanduras, etc..) and I played the hell out of them (still do). Wasn't Jetpack working on an all twelve string album?

Jeff, I'll have to find the disc. Its been a while, I do remember some really straightforward surf stuff and a vocal cover of Brick House. Wacky. Wish those guys put out more stuff. Their Christmas album is a classic in my family and their originals all have such a great atmosphere that so many bands lack. The Vanduras' album carries the same atmosphere and vibe.

I'd kill zzero's ferret if the Vanduras would record a second album. Assuming the ferret was magically transported to Huntington Beach along with a pepperoni pizza & a six pack of Mickey's Big Mouth. You get the idea.

Mickey's Big Mouth. LOL. Boy, that was a fave in Gtr Bob's North Long Beach 1972 trailer of trashy ales....I especially remember the larger 'mouth' back then and the pull-top that inevitably cut your thumb.
Meanwhile: I continue to wear out my most excellent Vandura CD. I love it more with each spin.
