The whole reason I bought my JM was because I wanted to add the "ultimate" surf guitar to my collection. I already had a couple Strats I gotta say after bringing the JM home and plugging in, that just reinforced my belief in the Jazzmaster as THE surf guitar. Between the pickups - especially both together - and the super-smooth trem, it just delivers that classic surf shimmer like no other instrument. Just add reverb. Of course, I just got done watching a couple Insect Surfer videos and they manage to sound pretty dang surfy with a 3-pickup Gibson SG in the lineup. OK, maybe not 1960's surfy, but still.... — Mark There are no wrong notes, just some questionable choices. Top

Of course, I was a kid and what I really wanted then a Strat. Eventually sold the Jag and got a Strat. Fast forward some umpty-odd years later and I'm wishing I still had that Jaguar. It would probably be worth a couple bucks more than the $150 I paid for it back then. I would like to get another Jag. I've got the Strat, Tele, and Jazzmaster bases covered - the Jag would fill that missing slot. Someday.... — Mark There are no wrong notes, just some questionable choices. Top

I've kinda did the same thing, sold my vintage original Green sparkel Jaguar the one on my Avatar .. And bought a Stratocaster!!! Now I have 3 jazzmasters 4 strats and 1 tele and 1 jag... Top

But since we have a surf/punk thing going on i need the dual humbuckers. I love it, and i'm looking to pick up a second one for a backup. Sure you may not get the full on Trad sound of a vintage early 60's Fender Strat...but there is nothing wrong with a Squier, they are what Leo intended the Strat's & Tele's to be back in the day.... a working mans guitar. I have a Squier Standard Strat that I picked up used. With a fret job, set up and after market pickups sounds and feels better than alot of the MIM Fenders I have played at GC for a 100.00 bucks less. I also have a long scale Jagmaster and just picked up a 22 fret Bullet that is in pieces while I try to figure out what color to paint it. I know some other members here play Squiers here too. horax Joined: Mar 23, 2011 Posts: 518 colorado springs	Posted on Mar 23 2011 11:16 AM I just started with this whole Surf Guitar craze....but I've been playing on my Squier Affinity Telecaster...and it sounds SWEET! I don't have a trem on it, so I play it through my Spider III Line 6 with a trem setting, and it sounds pretty good. I have a guitar on order, an SX Liquid with 3 pickups, but I need to get a trem for that as well. I hear they are good with surf music. Also, my father in law used to play, and he lets me play his guitar whenever I want. I'm sure I'll eventually own it when he dies. He has a 1957 Harmony Bobkat H 15 (I think)...it's got the dual single coil pickups without a trem...It was made for surf music, and I"m not going to mod that at all! I'm going to have to use his guitar to see how it would work out for surf music. First post...gotta love it! Top

Similar guitar, not exactly the same one. His experience certainly doesn't reflect mine. It's not a Jazzmaaster obviously, but a quite nice guitar.
