It would have to be the '63 Blonde Bassman head, followed by the 78 Fender silver face Reverb tank with the 69 Fender Bandmaster cab in third place. Priced so low even I could afford them. I also acquired a few guitars this year like a D'Angelico and a G&L ASAT Classic Custom, but I wouldn't put them in the running for the #1 Surf Gear purchase.

For me, it is the '65 Jaguar I bought early in the year - after a total rebuild, It is really great - Here's two photos - before and after. This guitar has me thinking that I should sell all my other guitars (within reason ) and buy a few vintage pieces. prices are jumping up by leaps and bounds. I thought I got pretty good deal, but now, 9 months later, I got a great deal!

I bought some other really cool gear this year, but this was the best by far.

My Showman was definitely the best purchase. The RI reverb tank is second. Third will be my Dipinto Galaxie 4, but I don't quite know if I'll be getting that one before the end of the year.

62 AVRI Jazzmaster from earlier this year.
65 Bandmaster.
and my RI Deluxe I just picked up a couple weeks ago.
Merry Christmas to me!
I love it, perfect for the house and small venue gigs.

The deal is I'm a computer hack - I erased the photo by mistake - I just fixed it. Sorry.

Guitars
1 = Epiphone Les Paul Jr. 90
2 = Fender So Cal Speed Shop Strat
3 = Fender Standard Telecaster (2005 model)
4 = Fender Standard Precision Bass (2005 model)
5 = Fender Standard Stratocaster
Music
Every surf CD I've bought, this year, be it at a live show (Cocktail Preachers, The Volcanos, The Madeira, Chrimson Ghosts, Fisherman) or from Amazon (Lost Legends of Surf Guitar series).
Hopefully I can get my Fender Standard Stratocaster out of lay-away, today or tomorrow. I've got $60 in Christmas cash, and got paid today, so I hope they're not closed through the holidays, or this one'll have to go on next year's list.
Matt
Edit: Yup, I got the Strat out of lay-away, today...WOO HOO! Got home, plugged it into my Peavey TransTube 258 EFX combo, and went to town with a little over a 1 hour jam session. Near the end, and exploring through all 5 switching positions with the amp on the Lead channel, I managed to find "Sunshine Of Your Love" (Cream) in my typical 1 finger bar playing style.

90's MIJ Jaguar RI
Fender 62 Reverb Tank RI
Line 6 POD XTlive with the Classic Amps Collection
Recently traded a Gibson EH185 lapsteel (pre- wwII) for a Jaguar MIA RI. I had had to pay $185 for tax and difference in trade value. So, technically it was purchase.
Other items acquired that are noteworthy was a Peavey VTM60 head that was is mint condition. Not a high dollar item, but very cool for Garage and Rock. Too bad it doesn't do channel switching.
