Permalink AVRI Thin Skin Jazzmaster Burgundy Mist FS/FT Feeler

Well, kinda hard to believe I'm doing this, but I'm toying with the idea of letting go of my Thin Skin Jazzy. It's a spotless American Vintage '62 Thin Skin Jazzmaster in Burgundy Mist Metallic finish with matching headstock. As I said, on last inspection it was spotless and it comes in the original Fender/G&G brown tolex case with all the case candy. I do this every time I get a minty guitar. I can just never get comfortable with playing such a flawless instrument. Anyway, I haven't taken any pictures of it yet, but below is the same model and I'll shoot some pictures of the actual instrument if I get some interest. The only trades I would consider (I can't add cash, but you can) would be a Guild electrics (Bluesbird or Starfire III especially), Hamer USA guitars, an American Standard Strat w/maple board (newest version in Candy Cola or Charcoal finish), a Bilt guitar, or maybe even a slightly abused AVRI Jazzmaster or Eric Johnson Strat or a Fender 50s Road Worn Strat in black (+ some cash). Anyway, shoot me a message if you're interested in buying or have something to offer in trade.

$1285 + shipping.

I have no problem at all putting the first scratch into your pristine guitar - just let me know when and where.

Nice looking guitar, BTW.

Just take a screwdriver to it and mess it up. Then you won't feel bad about playing it. It is merely a guitar playability matters, not how its condition.

I know. It's just a subconscious thing, I guess. I'm scared to ding it, therefore it rarely gets played.

I fully empathize with your reluctance to use it for fear of marring it.

I was in the same boat with my Sunburst AVRI Jazzmaster. Then I let our bass player "set it up for me". He did a great job except that he didn't take the neck all the way off to adjust the truss. He just loosened the neck plate bolts. So when I got it back, it played like a dream, but the finish around the neck plate was ruined. I was murderous angry, but soon realized he'd done me a favor.

It's like with a new board. After the first ding it becomes a tool to use and enjoy. Care for it and treat it with respect, but use it for its intended purpose.

IMHO, you will kick yourself hard and repeatedly if you let that one go! Suicide

You're not drunk if you can put your socks on while standing.

I broke my thin skin in a couple of months ago... leaned up against a door jamb and then it fell onto a metal desk. Nice little ding in the neck now. Sad

Thought I was gonna throw up for a minute. But it's all good!

I got me a sweet gold TS JM, about 1 month ago (I will post a review with pics soon). Yesterday I sneezed, freeform in the air, and didn't catch where the muck went flying. So I pick up the guitar later and the beautiful chrome of the trem plate was covered with thick goo. Took me a while to to scrape the mess off, especially under the strings. It was hardened like lacquer!
Is that what's called "breaking it in"?

Seriously, I'd rather have 1 instrument I'm committed to than 5 so so... this is a beginning of a serious relationship.

I was balanced an acoustic at the top of my parent's stairs. I was amazed I got it to balance and stay, so I went to the bathroom and then I hear clunk clunk clunk all the way down the stairs. Guitar survived.

I did what I thought was gonna be a really cool stage dive sorta thing, landed badly, fell to my knees, and the lower bout of my Jaguar got a real nice ding-- through to the wood, I'm afraid-- when it hit the ground next and helped break my fall... not a terribly impressive move, but I think most people were too drunk to notice it wasn't planned that way.

Actually, I'll bet we could start an interesting stage-moves-that-didn't-work-out-so-good thread. At least, I know I probably could...

Least you guys know how you hurt yours, i was playing my strat recently and notice 2 huge gouges out of the bottom edge, looks like i took a chisel to it, lightly... Only thing i can figure is i hit it on my amp chassis when setting it down once (i tend to leave my chassis out of their cabs when tinkering"

I wanna play just like him when i grow up...

Isn't one of the 12 deadly signs of alcoholism waking up with bruises you don't know how you got?

I wonder what it means if your guitar has dings-of-unknown-origin..?

On the whole, that's prolly more information than we really need... but I will say this: I sometimes decide which guitar I'm bringing to a gig based on my expectations regarding airborne beer and other bodily fluids

I believe that's women you don't know how you got. Sometimes it amounts the same thing, though.

That's a nice looking Jazzy!

Bump with pictures of the actual guitar. Also, it's up on ebay now, but still taking offers for trades. Most interested in cash though.

Absolutely gorgeous guitar!

If I didn't already have a Thin Skin JM, I'd jump all over this. Can't afford a second one, though. Sad

I can't believe it's still available at 13 bills. Somebody will end up with a great guitar at that price.

There are no wrong notes, just some questionable choices.
