This is an astoundingly beautiful song, IMO (though there are probably some that find it boring). Not surf, but Peter Green was inspired by the Shadows when writing it, so there's some connection.

Just putting this here since some of you may not be familiar with this song - and you should be. It reminds me a bit of The Quiet Surf..... Though in the video Green's playing a Les Paul, apparently he claimed to have recorded this track with a Strat (they're not really playing in the video, just faking it along to the original recording). Beautiful sound!
Enjoy!

I've always liked this song Ivan, and even though their not really playing their instruments in the video they certainly did a good job on selling it.The song evokes laying back in a hammock on a white sand beach just taking it easy with "Albatross" flying in the distance. ![Thumbs Up Thumbs Up](/media/smiley/images/icon_thumbsup.gif)

Thanks for posting Ivan.
I have always loved Peter Green's playing. John Mayall's A Hard Road album is vintage Peter Green greatness!

They are indeed playing live in that video. They make it look so easy.
Matt Quilter and the "legends" played this song at the last Surfing Sunday at the HBISM.

Doug, they're not. It's most obvious by watching Mick Fleetwood's cymbal swells which are not even close to matching the music. The rest of the guys do a great job 'finger-syncing', but Mick was probably too high... ![Smile Smile](/media/smiley/images/icon_smile.gif)

Peter Green is one of the most underrated players of that era. He completely blows Clapton out of the water. Those early Fleetwood Mac albums are amazing, such a shame he cracked up and they turned into such crap.

I stand corrected. I've watched that video many times before and they had me fooled but I did hear a cymbal this time without any help from Mick. Bare Trees has a couple of nice instros too, Sunny Side of Heaven and Danny's Chant, but Peter Green was gone by then.

I remember in the Vintage Guitar that featured him on the cover, Green said he was inspired by "Sleepwalk".
Here's a thread about it on a Fleetwood Mac forum:

Ferenc, which version? The original or the Shadows' version? Cause the latter was quite big in the UK in the early '60s. It's common knowledge that Green was a big Shadows fan, as well - he appeared on the Shads' tribute "Twang" back in the '90s, covering "Midnight", a song that was intended to be a kind of a copy of "Sleepwalk". All sorts of connections! ![Smile Smile](/media/smiley/images/icon_smile.gif)

Ivan, good question. I am not one to keep old VGs around, so I don't have the issue, and can't find it online. But, my memory is that he was talking about the Santo and Johnny version, which captured his imagination at a young age.
Albatross = 2 chords (!!!)

Thanks Ferenc!
Yeah, that was recorded live at Doug Forbe's place. I think we used a Korg 3200 for that tune. Marty Tippens on Drums, Rob Woolsey on lead, me on Rhythm, and Doug on Bass. We mic'd everything up and let it rip.
An acoustic guitar really makes that tune even more prettier.
Thanks!
