Looks and sounds like they were miming to the original recording. And Merrell Fankhauser was not in the original band, he's from The Impacts. Check out the Impacts video, some cool vintage stuff there.

Yeah, I haven't listened to the original recording for a while but I'm pretty sure it's the original Revels version played back.

yeah the Macramae bathing suit is dated, but it reminds me of my childhood in Northen California.

I also designed a special new look for The Surfites, Reluctant Aquanauts and The 'Verb:
Everyone wears Hawaiian shirts that have prints of little Hawaiian shirts on them, and each little print of Hawaiian shirt has prints of Woodies (cars) on it. Pants must not match. Footwear - some flipflops, some Birkenstocks. Also, some hats are mandatory - 1 straw hat, 1 baseball cap, 1 beret (worn backwords).
Also, covers of Wipeout, Let's Go Trippin', Rock Around The Clock are mandatory.

I'm for hire as band image consultant. Just go to a LR gig and see the results.

even thou the supertones version is not as good as the revels version it's still a kick in the pants, plus you get to see me surf some good waves in p.r.

Even if we DO cover Church Key...

but hey, it's about 3 times the tempo of the original, so I guess that makes it okay.

Either way, I don't know that I've ever seen so much "white pants" in a band since Satan's Pilgrims. But at least SP look like badasses onstage.

Also, dig the completely out-of-rhythm and uncoordinated "kicks" from the bassist in the last verse. Reallllly something.
