One thing to be noted - a part of the reason why the guitar sounds are so good is that they're not using as much reverb anymore. Here's what Dalibor said about that, again from my interview: "There is less reverb then usual but this is the sound we have now. And we didn't use ambient miking as before. We wanted to be more 'in your face' because too much reverb can be a problem in the mix. I think I played 'Sonic Bullets' on a last day of mixing and was surprised that we had much more reverb on that album, but as I said the new songs needed a different sound."

Yeah, when I saw them about 5 years ago he was using a late model showman and the same 66 Jazzy as he always uses..
Cool, where did you see them?
In Spain on my Vacation, They were playing in a bar that I can't remember the name some thing like the Latina or Cantina? I really cant remember..

Ivan, did Dalibor mention if Lada used that Orange bass head I've seen her with recently on the album? I'm a big fan of Orange bass amplification in the right hands, such as Lada. Her playing was really great on the new album, everyone's playing was. It all had purpose.

From my ongoing interview with Dalibor: Dalibor played a Vox AC-30 (non top boost, early 60s) with a Fender reverb unit and Dinko played a Deluxe Reverb. Dalibor thinks he also used a Super Reverb on a couple of tracks, too.
No Showman? What's Dalibor's live rig?
My live set up is Fender Super Reverb (silverface) + Jazzmaster. I used to use Dual Showman + Vox AC30 together but we don't have enough space in the van at the moment. And I didn't play Dual Showman for a long long time anyway (interesting story about this amp is that Chuck Berry played it twice!:)). I believe I'll use Vox in the future because it sits better in the mix and I'll have to use it together with Fender (I need back up for Vox because it is not reliable as old Fender).
Dinko plays his DIY Magnatone amp or Fender Deluxe Reverb and Lada is playing Orange with 2 speaker cabinets (heavy:)). She played it on album also. Amazing amp.

The Bambis seem to be one of the few modern surf bands that can make a blip on the radar the mainstream press (okay, relatively mainstream, in this case):

All praise the Bambis! I'm currently editing a lengthy interview I did with Dalibor over the summer, and it'll be coming out in the next Continental.
As the Dark Wave Swells is an amazing album, my favorite surf release this year. The Bambis point the way forward, IMO. They found a way to preserve what I think is cool about trad surf music while presenting it as something modern and contemporary rather than retro - I think that's why they keep getting the mainstream attention. I wish there ten more like them.

The reviewer isn't very knowledgeable about the genre, but that's to be expected.
The problem in this case is not that the writer knows nothing about surf music. The problem is that the writer clearly knows nothing about surf music yet tries to pass himself off as being knowledgeable about it.
And in this case, typing "SURF" into the All Music Guide search engine didn't exactly pay off in spades. That's how you end up with references to Duane Eddy's timeless "Rabble Rouser" single, Link Wray's spring reverb soaked sound, notable modern surf bands The Aquabats and The Surfers, etc.
The other surf album reviews scattered throughout their archives (a few Man or Astroman albums, the first Ghastly Ones album and the Surf Monsters comp) aren't any different, really.
— That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.
