At $650, depending on where you live you might be able to find a silverface Pro or Twin for not much more, which are killer combos for surf.

Sorry to bring this subject up again but I'm curious, is this change worthfull on the pro junior as well (I consider it would be logical to be so, but want to make sure).

Can this change optimize the power of the amp without having to plug a second speaker?

A lot people use the Jensen C10Q with the Pro Jr. I bought my amp with one already fitted, i wouldn't know the difference between the Jensen and the standard part.
Watford Valves do some kits: http://www.watfordvalves.com/products.asp?search=pro%20junior

I prefer the Pro Jr, but the Blues Jr is a decent amp as well.

Both amps do well when powering a larger speaker cabinet (2x10 or 1x15).

which cabs did you try ?
I have a stock Blues Jr (2nd generation) and it works well for me with a reissue reverb tank when I play at home. But in the rehersal room, it's way too distorted when I crank it up. I know that some of the billm mods and different speakers could make a difference, but I don't want to spend much money on that amp for now. My long term goal is a blonde/blackface showman or bassman, but I don't have the funds to get a decent head and a cab right now either.
In Europe, vintage heads seem to show up on ebay etc. more frequently than cabs.

So, I was thinking if I can find a good deal on a BF Fender or Echolette cab, would it improve the clean sound of my amp to play with a band (no recording or gigging) while I save up more money for a head ?

I've used my PJ to power both cabs, but to my ears the 2x10" sounded the best. It was equipped with 2-Jensen P10 speakers.
