Permalink Tab to "Percolator" suggestions?

New Topic

The most elusive tab ever. If anyone can help me out... I would really appreciate it!
What a great little tune.
sounds like hes arpeggiating some major chords but I am a beginner and my ear hasn't developed very much.

Lets tab this gem

Who is it by???

Joel

On my computer it says "The Ventures" I found a xylophone version on youtube....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQsDidLHUME&feature=related

sorry its the best i could find, same tune though... Perhaps it will jog your memory

Ah yes I remember that song. Here is some more info to help with your tab search. The Ventures did do a version of Percolator on their <u>"The Ventures Play Telstar/Ventures in Space"</u> album. But perhaps you already knew that. I have posted a link to the artilcle futher down that I am also posting here below the link.

**About Cajmere...

I'm from Chicago and I'm here to tell you the artist of the Percolator. His Name was then Cajmere but now he is known as Green Velvet. Green Velvet (birth name Curtis Alan Jones) is one of the Icons of Chicago House A.K.A. Deep house in the world. Green was close to completing a Chemcial Engineering Masters when scrapped it to become a DJ. He Started Cajual Records on which he produced Instrunmental tracks for himself and others.

The song which is on one of your music list titled "What's it all about? The Top Forty Songs of All Time That Leave More Questions Than Answers." is mostly known as"The Percolator" or "It's Time For the Percolator" but its original title is called "Coffee Pot". Which should relieve a lot of scratching heads of the last 10-15 years. This song is considered by far a staple club joint to most House fanactics.

There is also a dance that is done with it which when I was asked once by my mother "Why is it done like that?" I said "It's simulating what the percolator of a coffee pot does." The actual dance calls for massive amounts of coordination, rhythmn and energy. To do the dance you turn to your side. Put your hands up and out as if you're going to give a great big huge and you titter totter them up and down. All the whilest your front leg is bent and moving the upperpart of your body up and down in a bouncy robotic motion. There is also a double action version is "The Percolator" but only the most experienced of us can do that version!

Now I'm sure you're probably wondering as to where the term "House" comes from as well. "House" came from a Chicago night club called The Warehouse. I knew of it's notariaty but was too young to go! Frankie Knunckle, Dj Sneak, Cajmere, Carl Cox and any and all DJ's of merit spun there. The Warehouse sarted in the mid-80's and by 1993 it was but a dream. The Warehouse was to house music what Club 54 was to Disco.

So there you have it a brief but accurate history on 'The Percolator." Green Velvet is now a cosmopolitan DJ that travels and tours the world 24/7/365. -- She'ry Denae McKee**

That "percolator" song is not the one i am talking about.... This is what i mean by how elusive this song is!!! check that youtube link i sent! or search for the ventures version...

The song you are looking for was originaly the Maxwell House coffee song, used in their TV commercials. It has been covered by many groups. I have looked for an original author, but everytime I try and find info, I get inudated with spyware and bugs. So as far as i am concerned, you are on your own here.
Good hunting.

Joel

If you check "the Ventures" Album with Percolator on it, it will tell you who the songwriter is. All the albums all had the songwriters names credited on the
record.. Mr. Green .....but who was it??? Hmmm I can't find my album with Percolator on it...... Crying

I still cant figure it out....

Its on my Windows Media Player as The Ventures "Percolator" from Telstar/Lonely Bull 1962....

I can't find it by ear... because of my beginner skill level.

ok try this.

bar the 7th fret. put your ring finger over the D & G strings on the 9th fret. now your gonna start with the little finger and play one note on the A string at the 10th fret. and move down this way.

10th fret e string would be represented like this..... (10)e

so the basic song goes like this.
(10)e, (10)a(9)d, (9)g, (7)g.
(10)e, (10)a, (9)d, (9)g, (7)g, (9)g, (7)g. Repeat both lines
than
(9)d,(7)d,(9)d,(7)g
(9)d,(7)d,(9)d,(7)g
(9)d,(7)d,(10)a
(10)e (10)a (9)d,(9)g,(7)g,(9)d(7)d(10)a

It just progresses' from there.
I hope this helps.
Basicly played over a type of minor cord type. sorta ....

I realise this is an old thread but!

The song Percolator (Twist) by Billy Joe And The Checkmates was actually a Billboard Top 100 "One Hit Wonder" way back in 1962. Maxwell House must have used it for their commercials some time after that.

I actually found an old Yamaha XG midi file of the Ventures version on my computer, but I'm inclined to think it's taken from the original and renamed. I don't have a Yamaha XG synth on my computer any more so I can't say what the quality is like. I'm not too sure about copyright so I can't post the tab here. You could always PM me however.

Thanks Joelman that was right on!
