Dave of the Insects got one of those guitars
complete crap.
Jef(btd)

Norm was right about them being a "novelty item". I recommended to Don & Jeff Lace that as novelty items that they should be marketed outside of "normal" Musical Instrument channels-car magazines and shows, speed shops, drag races etc. They chose to stay with the traditional MI dealer network where quality was more of a concern.

Went to The Peterson Auto Museum today to check out Roth's "Outlaw" and thought you guys might dig the pics I took. The Outlaw was built in '59 and featured on the cover of Car Craft in January 1960! Can you believe it? Roth was light years ahead of his time. Enjoy!

Hey Dave , I have never seen one of those Big Daddy Roth guitars. PLEASE could you upload a photo or two? Ed Roth was a staple of my childhood. I had most of his Ravel models. A true icon of the 60's. Thanks bra

There's actually a website for them. Here's the link... http://www.ratfink.org/rat_fink_guitars/

Roth had nothing to do with these guitars. They're a novelty item with the name Rat Fink on it. Even so, I wouldn't mind having one of those 15 watt amps just for fun to use as a practice amp.

Thought you might dig that, Ted. The security guard was watching me closely. He could obviously see the drool on my lip.

Wish I could see the Outlaw in person as well. One of my favorite Roth creations.

A while back I went to the location of Roth's studio in Maywood, CA just to see what I would find. I took these pictures for comparison and thought you Roth fans would enjoy checking them out...

Cool pics. That is hallowed ground in my book Cool

sad sad photos... such a cool field trip...how could they paint over???...awww, nevermind...sad but cool...

We named our band,(the Orbitrons) after one of Big Daddy Roths dragsters
http://www.theorbitron.com. It's a very cool story

Always interesting to see what have become of once cool places, good or bad. If I was living in Southern California, I would go around visit such places all the time. I sure hope that the current residents of Roth's shop knew who Big Daddy was...

Got to see some really cool stuff thanks to Domenic Priore who showed us around during our 1996 California tour. Here we are with Roth's Globe Hopper:

Norm,

You know I dig those customs and I really liked your before and after shots. Thanks for sharing them. Cool coffee table book idea.

Hey check out my Facebook photo section for a few pics I snapped at World of Wheels here in Winnipeg last year. A Rat Fink themed dragster, and a pretty cool custom called el Tiki that I think really captured that old custom feel in the grill.

Great photos Norm, thanks a ton for sharing these. It is a little sad to see his doodles painted over, but at least the shop is still there, still looking a lot like it did in '64.
