Wow! I never thought anyone would bring up The Apemen on this forum. I still have their two singles from the 90's. Here's some scans from my collection. Thier ESTRUS release is the better of the two. Pretty awesome stuff. Side A is Percolator SIDE B is El Tortura...
The other single I own is very low-fi in a Phantom Surfers-kid-of way and contains 4 songs... Toronado, Surf Dracula, Bahareeba, and When Johnny comes Wreckin' Home. Like I said, low-fi but high energy. Man, I miss these 90's surf bands. —BOSS FINK "R.P.M." available now from DOUBLE CROWN RECORDS! |

I'm a big fan of the Apemen as well; I think there have been many threads about them here. A big thank you to Sean at Double Crown for making that 7" of Love disc so widely available compared to their other releases. —Site dude - S3 Agent #202 "It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea |

Recycling my ramblings from an old thread from years ago (I don't even remember what forum it was on) - I still like the 10" (Are You Being Surfed?) the best, maybe because it was the first thing I heard from these guys. Then the 45s and lastly the album. I always thought that the 10" had a better balance of energy/no sloppiness. The album sounds very sloppy, and there is something to be said about the lack of keys that make the 10" sound darker. Lately I've been listening to some comp cds I made years ago, and realized I really like "Hard and Sole", although I find myself humming an additional melody on top of what's in the song. Maybe a possible cover opportunity... Ran — |

I saw them at Garageshock in the early 90's and they were forgettable. They kind of sounded like Girl Trouble and the MonoMen... I Like the vinyl I have though! —Jeff Utterback |
