just heard from FRANK WOOD
he needs to turn SUNDAY MAY 24th into a 'WEDDING PARTY NIGHT' for a best friend/musician who is getting married; they want to turn OTTO's SHRUNKEN HEAD into a 'musical reception'
so thanks to all the bands that wanted to play
sorry it is not going to happen
FRANK and I will plan another one in the Fall, 2009

I am joining forces with New York independent music promoter extraordinaire
FRANK WOOD for another one of our joint ventures, known as The UNSTEADY/WOOD
'BEACH BALL'

Frank is putting together his annual '10 DAYS OF WOOD' multi-day multi-venue
extravaganzas in the Fall. As folks know, I do a SURF-ROCK SHINDIG
every-first-Saturday-of-the-Month at OTTO's SHRUNKEN HEAD. Since my November
7th SHINDIG falls within the '10 DAYS OF WOOD' -- Frank + I thought this would
be a great way for us to work together again.
So, it's official: NOVEMBER 7 2009 will be the next UNSTEADY/WOOD 'BEACH BALL'
(and there will NOT be a separate SHINDIG for NOVEMBER '09). The Big Event
kicks off at 6 pm, SHARP. There will be 7 bands, one band every Hour, On The
Hour, PROMPT.
So far, The TarantinosNYC have approached me, and have secured the 11 PM time
slot. Frank just advised me by telephone that EL MUCHACHO will perform at
MIDNIGHT. I have also just added, at 9 pm, COMMERCIAL INTERRUPTION.
Thus, we have 4 openings left, 6 PM through 10 PM (except 9 PM).
Contact me, schizofredric@yahoo.com, if U wanna grab one of the available
remaining time slots for the NOVEMBER 7th UNSTEADY/WOOD 'BEACH BALL'.
Thanxxxxx,

as many people here at SG101 are aware, I put on a SURF-ROCK SHINDIG every first Saturday of the Month at OTTO's SHRUNKEN HEAD in New York City
on November 6, 2010, I will presenting a show at OTTO's.
however, on that night, it will be with 6 bands, instead of 4 bands; and the show will start at 7 pm, instead of 9 pm -- each band will begin their performance at the top of each hour
instead of a SURF-ROCK SHINDIG, it will be an UNSTEADY/WOOD "BEACH BALL". I will again be doing a show with FRANK WOOD, leading independent music promoter in the NYC area
http://www.mrfwood.com/
http://www.myspace.com/mrfwood
Frank will be doing his annual "10 Days Of Wood" where he presents shows every night for 10 days in a row (I believe Day #1 is November 5, so this will be Day #2??)
so far 3 bands have committed, and it looks to be shaping up into a special show!
10 PM-THE OCTOMEN
11 PM-THE COFFIN DAGGERS
12 MIDNIGHT-EL MUCHACHO
I need a band for 7pm, 8pm, and 9pm
If interested, write me, schizofredric@yahoo.com, or send me a message thru SG101
Thanks!
UNSTEADY FREDDIE
p.s. I am also posting this in my SURF-ROCK SHINDIG thread, so please forgive the double-posting; just want to get the word out

There was a fire after hours this past weekend at Otto's Shrunken Head, thank God no one was hurt
The November 6th UNSTEADY/WOOD BEACH BALL is canceled at the venue
Unsure when Otto's will reopen, but my December SHINDIG, for the moment, is still on schedule
Frank Wood is working diligently to get the NOV 6th BEACH BALL set up at another venue
STAY TUNED

re-did the poster to reflect the fact that it will be a benefit for OTTO'S SHRUNKEN HEAD, and that the venue is now THE DELANCEY -- all bands are still a "go", which is wonderful!!

Hey.. I am going to be with a friend on Saturday, going to try to convince him to come down to the city for this show. Any idea what the parking situation is like in that neighborhood? I usually drive down to the city and look for free or "cheap" muni-metered parking at worst.

you will be scouting up and down the streets between Delancey and Houston Streets, eventually finding a spot open somewhere
have patience!
there are garages all over the place, too
or park elsewhere and grab a subway?

I figured as much... I am usually good at finding parking in Manhattan.. I am pro on the upper west/east sides and E/W Village. Wish me luck!
I am almost 100% on coming down to this show. My friend and I from Queens are going to come in probably, so maybe we will take a train.. who knows. Anyway, if I go, I hope to meet all of you guys. If you recognize me, don't be shy!

Good show last night! Nice venue too. I had the pleasure of attending this show with a friend of mine last night and we had a really good time. All the bands were really good. We had to leave before El Muchacho unfortunately. I was lucky enough to meet Ralph of The Ocotomen and Unsteady Freddie who were both really great dudes. Some great guitar playing last night and beautiful gear too. Didn't have an opportunity to meet Mr. Psychonaut but he seemed busy and in the zone all night, so I didn't want to be annoying. Anyway - good times - great job Freddie for putting this show together.
