I was getting my daily dose of the old western TV show The Virginian today, and low,and behold in the opening credits as a special guest star is surf guitar legend Aki Aleong. Most of you are probably familiar with his song "Earthquake"a song that often gets credited to just The Nobles, even though it's really Aki Aleong & The Nobles.Anywhoo I was really shocked to realize that Aki was also a actor too.In fact he has worked with Sinatra,Brando,McQueen,Peirce Bronson,Roger Moore,Chuck Norris, etc.
His acting was really good,as he was one of the main characters in the episode.I just find it amazing I'm still learning new things about the history of surf music, and the people that helped shape it.
Here's a clip from the show The Virginian

Here's Aki &The Nobles "Earthquake" a song also made famous by The Bomboras on their Savage Island album by the way.

Aki had nothing to do with The Nobles' instros - he sang on "Mary Ann (Come Surf With Me)" and that was it.
— That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

Aki was only the producer if I recall correctly. And he has been in hundreds of bit parts. Oh, and a longtime friend of mine used to live in his guest house for years, so I can say this with a high degree of confidence: Aki is way, way nutty.

Here's "Hiawatha" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rLJU7I5ZyE&feature=related
I really can't recommend this album enough (minus the one crappy vocal). Some of the covers aren't necessarily amazing, but the band's original songs are all really cool. Definitely on the simple side, but they had great energy and spirit, and also two drummers. AT ONCE.
