These performances by all the groups on video are absolutely fantastic. For us who were not able to make it there, these videos are absolute treasures that capture that magic. Thanks a million to those who videotaped it and sharing them with us.

Indeed. Great stuff. Nice to be able to get a taste of the event.

The Volcanos

Too much fun! Thanks all for the videos. We're lucky so many talented people choose to play this music!

Ryan, I'm really intrigued by the new tunes and look forward to the album! Dang, your technique is so amazing. Guys like you and Ivan and Danny and Ferenc really raise the bar.

Mr_Reverb63
i know i was like holy crap i should record this! haha i love that song and when i saw that u were going to go up and play i knew it would be an unforgettable performance!

No guarantees in life, but we stepped it up and did it well - I'm relieved! Would have sucked to have that video out there with us hitting bum notes left and right!! Laughing

it was great meeting you Ivan i hope maybe one day the Madeira will come to San Francisco and us Deadbeats could hopefully open for you guys! that would be a dream come true! Worship

Likewise, Zanti, great meeting you and your whole crew! I am very happy there are bands out there like yours, injecting new blood into our genre, cause it's the only way it will stay alive. And you guys are REALLy great! you do it right, and you're all loaded with talent! Keep it up!

As far as your second point, I'm pretty sure that can be arranged... And the honor will be all ours! Very Happy

Frankie- "Magyara w/Ivan Pongracic" (San Francisco) Xanti's video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKwRpkIQdzs

the Magyara video does sound sweet: the unison guitar leads / trading leads sort of reminds me of classic Blue Oyster Cult... and that's a good thing in my book!

Nice work!

Thanks, DP, but you're so horribly and deadly wrong it's not even funny! BOC?? Please... It's CLEARLY all about Maiden in this song!

I think many of us look back at the artists from the early 60's with a sense of real appreciation for what they gave us with their music. I hope Ferenc, Karen, Danny, Ryan and all the rest realize that 50 years from now people will be watching these videos with the same appreciation and just maybe some amazement at how great their music is.. Nice work....

Excellent perspective! The generational view.

This is precisely why I loved seeing the legends perform plus then gentlemen like Paul Johnson and John Blair diggin on the Space Cossacks...their early work and their mission are in good hands! In the coming years, a new generation of Surf rockers will be the envy of all of us today. No doubt we shall say to them the same thing making it all worthwhile. "You know, it's in good hands!" And who knows, maybe Ivan or Ferenc will be in _their _audience Wink

Excellent comments! And all I can say in response to Dave: I sure hope so!!

"It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea

Guess I'll be the first to post a Members Jam vid (thanks Lorenzo).
I've been playing for paying audiences for 48 years, and do a lot of MC work for various charities. I'm normally very comfortable on stage in front of strangers.
I was shaking like a leaf and almost asked for a "do-over" on the intro (mecifully missing from the video). That said-I wouldn't trade it for anything, and after watching and listening, all I can say is, "Thanks guys-it's the most fun I've had in a LONG time"!

Totally digging the Tailspin! thanks for posting!

Totally digging the Tailspin! thanks for posting!

Thanks dp, and lest I forget, the performance was dedicated to Danny "Daddy-O-Grande" Amis, Miles Corbin of "The Aqua Velvets", and "The King", Dick Dale. All three have had a huge influence on me (us) and are currently dealing with serious health issues.
Keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Great job on Tailspin!

Here is a killer performance based on The Nocturnes covers of two surf classics "Baha-Ree-Ba" (Trademarks) and "Journey to the Stars" (Ventures).

Sax - Jim Frias (Chantays, Nocturnes, yes! an original 60's guy!!)
Guitar - Ran Mosessco (Sand Devils, Astroglides)
Drums - Norman "Baron Shivers" Cabrera (Ghastly Ones, Finksville 5)
Guitar - Danny Snyder (The TomorrowMen, Messhugga Beach Party, Frankie & The Pool Boys)
Bass - John Paul Balak (Tikiyaki Orchestra, Insect Surfers, Boardwalkers)

Thanks for posting this Brian! Doesn't sound too bad for one rehearsal.
BTW, because we were playing with Jim Frias, we were actually trying to lean towards the Nocturnes versions of these songs, as a tribute to them.

Thanks Ted...and indeed, I agree about what you said about Danny...that's how I came up with the idea to bow down while he's soloing...lightining fast right hand, and super nimble left hand (plus the mind abilities to make them work properly)!

Embarassed Thanks guys, you're too kind. Playing with Ran, JonPaul and Norm is tons of fun and a real honor. Seeing how we've done this 3 times already we should probably come up with a name, how about The Conventioneers?
