Some years ago, the Sundazed label brought us a priceless surf music lost treasure, putting out the entire unreleased album by the Original Surfaris produced by Tony Hilder. This time, it´s the legendary Thom Starr & The Galaxies´ _Sons Of The Beach _album!
It´s included on their new release South Bay Surf: Anthology 1963-64. As you can hear from the sound samples at their web site , these recordings are not unworthy of the awaited thing, that´s for sure! Really cool sounds, very classy of course, and a bit more reverbeb than the ussually South Bay bands´ output.
I don´t know if there´s a previous bootleg of this recordings, this is the first time I hear them. I´m waiting for my copy and can´t be more pleased!
Highly recommended for all the classic surf music fanatics.

I'll be getting this one as well. I'm pretty sure there have never been any bootlegs of the unissued album. Have yet to decide which to get of the CD or double LP.

I'm just listening to the clips on the Sundazed site. Wow, this is really good.

Listened to Squad Car and Mr. Moto samples, so ordered this one. Hopefully good liner notes.

The playing has an elegance to it that I really like. I'm definitely going to get this one.

I noticed Double Crown was carrying this and I needed to fill in some of my South Bay band holes in my collection. Jonpaul's recent radio show about the South Bay bands also sparked my interest in this.
I'm still absorbing the music but I can share some brief thoughts. The unreleased "Sons of the Beach" album tracks are stylistically very similar to the Belairs, with emphasis on great rhythms and grooves. Very nice. Then the CD moves onto the unissued tracks, and at first listen I like these a lot better. There is more variety to the sound and some really good surf gems in here. I've also heard a lot of these tracks on various radio and streaming services before.
As you would expect from Sundazed, the artwork, photos, and packaging are top notch. They really crammed a lot into this digipak release. There is also a fold out booklet with extensive liner notes by surf music expert John Blair.
I can already tell this is definitely a must-buy for the surf music fan and collector. I look forward to digging into the music more deeply.
Buy this!

I need to buy this.
I've heard it, and it's must have.
Not my fave type of surf,
But surely necessary for a well rounded collection.

One of my favorite CD's, since I love The Belairs style this is solid gold.
What happened to Thom Starr? I knew he was "kicked out" of the band.
But also heard his last years were not the best.

Emilien, Thom Starr died in 2005, one of our community's great losses over the last decade. I'm very grateful to Sundazed for issuing this great record. Tunefan and Tuck: hope you thought the liners were adequate.
