Permalink Guitar intro on good vibrations (Studio session)

I can't help liking the guitar intro on an instrumental version of the Beach Boys good vibrations.

Brian's masterpiece. I must have listened to this a million times and I'm in awe of it every time. It's so ahead of its time that Capitol didn't know what to make of it, and didn't have faith in it. Of course it turned out to be a massive hit and highly influential. Ha!

When I hear record companies bleating about how piracy is killing music I think of Capitol's indifference to the Beach Boys and CBS's complete lack of understanding about what the Clash were doing, among others. Record companies understand money, bands and fans understand music. If anybody has recently held bands back from developing their full potential, it has to be major record labels.

IMO, of course. I'm sure there are sound, honourable, honest record labels out there. Somewhere.

FYI, some dude on YouTube has made a bunch of pretty cool videos about the Beach Boys arranging and recording the instrumental tracks with the Wrecking Crew.

Yes, I've seen those. The guy who edited those clips on Youtube did a very nice job of showing you who the session players were. Those isolated tracks are from the Pet Sounds Sessions Box set. On that CD box set you hear how Brian constructed those songs on tape, recording little bits at a time and assembling and composing the tunes as he went along.... a completely alien concept for its time and awe-inspiring to say the least.

And based on one of those clips, i found out that the guitar intro is played by :
the late Al Casey:
