M's biggest influence is John Fahey, can't fault the man for his musical taste, only for working with Zooey. She and Him can be quite good at times but abysmal at others.

Listening to She and Him, you can definitely tell, cause there are several background reverb crashes on their tracks.
But yeah, I definitely dig M Ward, I think he's a great songwriter.

I don't think that has anything to do with surf music though. We surf musicians like to think we own any technique that we have ever used, but that simply isn't the case.

Thanks for the link. I have pretty much all of M Ward's and She & Him's vinyl releases - I'm obviously a big fan of both.
Zooey often gets knocked for her "deer in the headlights" stage presence, but I like what she does musically for the most part.
Check out "Neptune's Net" from M Ward's Post War album for a very surfy instrumental track (in a Pixies kind of way).
The guy is a tasty and excellent guitarist - with a folksy, somewhat unique singing voice as well. I also hear a Chet Atkins vibe in a lot of his playing. Highly recommended.

I would say that is John Fahey's influence. Check him out.

I like She & Him. Then again I like a lot of goofy shit. Zooey Deschanel has a real Dusty Springfield vibe to my ears. Anyway, doe in headlights or not, she is easy on the eyes, no complaints here.
