Holy cow! That was amazing!! Miserlou with a fuzz tone. So evil and heavy sounding. And Nokie doing the soft classical picking in the middle with the "Maleguena" part gave me chills. Probably the best recent arrangement of the song I've heard. That 1999 concert with Nokie and Yuzo must have been something to see in person!

What I think is particularly cool with his fuzz sound is that it's a real fuzz sound. Most other artists of his fame would likely have used some awful and lame heavy metal distorsion pedal instead.

Agreed!! His fuzz tone made the tune sound almost Davie Allan like. Real heavy, like something from a 60's biker flick.

Wish i could pick half that fast an actually hit what i mean to:)

I wanna play just like him when i grow up...

Takeshi Terauchi comes visiting Yuzo Kayama for some awesome guitar playing together. Too bad the old man isn't that good on the drums, haha. From the Eleki No Wakadaisho movie.

Notice how Kayama uses the English words for "volume control" and "tremolo arm" when he demonstrates the guitar to Terry.

meanwhile there's a comment on the first clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pzbkhu-798

" I think that this performance is one scene of Japanese Movie called Young general In Rio de Janeiro "Rio No Wakadaishou"(1968). By the way, the performance is Yuzo Kayama & Launchers and Kunie Tanaka(Japanese Actor)"

and elsewhere:
"clip from the film Rio No Wakadaishou (1968) with 'performance' by Yuzo Kayama & the Launchers"

I'd be curious about any additional information about this clip/film with that arty background video!

Awesome! Thanks, Klas.

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

That was very cool!

So Klas, how do you find these videos? That one had no description at all, and only had the filename in Japanese. Smile

Cool... simply cool. That is the definition of "being on fire" in my book.

Holy crap! That's an awesome video. I love the song as well. I know I've asked this a couple of times before but what would be a good start on listening to some Yuzo? I already have one Takeshi album that kicks ass. Santiago made me a copy. I think he said that it was called "Let's Go! Eliki Bushi" and I really love it. Track 1, 3, 4 ,11 are my favorites. Simply great music.

This is the perfect starting point. All instros:

I'll second Ryan's recommendation. Nine of the ten songs on that collection come from three of his 60s albums, and the modern(ish) version of "Black Sand Beach" is decent.

(edit) Of those three 60s albums, I have these two, and I'd highly recommend them. Some of the vocal songs are - seriously - just as good as the instros.

Usually by just clicking on a related video that have a preview pic showing potential. In this case I was looking for a 45 music sample of another Kayama song I was considering on eBay.

Yeah, I agree. Also a very classy performance which one doesn't see too often these days.
