I just got the video and posted it on YouTube. Bear used Wadadli Riders' new song (not released yet) "The North Swell" for their new summer promo.

"It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea

I just asked Dario this question...and he understandably said it depends on many factors. But, I'm playing my G-spring through the 71 Band Master clean channel...with flatwounds on my 62 AVRI Jazzmaster, and I'm not getting that heavy wet drip that starts that tune and so many others. Are they adding echo, and maybe just a different setup/pickups, or just the player?

Hey Bill,

for the heavy-Astronauts-like drip I have used my fender reverb tank, the rhythm has basically no mids, just very high treble and bass to make a sort of "elastic" sound. The tank has all RCA tubes, main is a 6K6. In recording I then apply a little compression that pushes the sound much, and so I do on the lead guitar. I used no delay and no other effects or dynamic processors. The speaker is a JBL 15" on a Twin Rev amp. I pushed the volume quite a lot. The mic is a Shure 545, I like it more. Guitar is a Jaguar with Fender flats 13-54. Pickups are Seymour Duncan Antiquity II.

I hope this helps, you have to try. I like the sound in Firewater of the Astronauts and the final result is the same. I don't think at the time they had good instruments like today (I mean studio instruments), so I wanted to get that sound with no strange effects. For me was not easy to get it, but i quite like the result.

Lorenzo,

Yeah, I really like the result too. That tune just kills it. Thanks much for the setup detail. That helps me alot. I'm playing through a 2X12 cabinet, and I think a 1X15 JBL would improve things. I am curious about how you described playing the rhythm, with bass and treble only. Does that mean you are picking the bass with your thumb and treble at the same time with another finger, or recording separately?

Lorenzo, nice score with the Bear surfboards.

Does this mean a new cd is coming out soon?

The first one is excellent. Anybody who hasn't bought this, do
yourself a favor and buy it.

Surfer Bill
I think that Lorenzo means that he has the bass and treble set high,
and the mids turned down.
but I could be wrong.

also, try using both pickups at the same time.
not just neck or bridge.

You're right...for some reason I was thinking he was talking about how he was playing the rhythm lick... doe de doe doe But, I found out it actually makes for a cool effect...but difficult at speed.

Yes this is the idea. Sorry, I probably explained it wrong. I am talking about the settings on the amp.

Yes, we are working on it. I would like it to be ready by Jan 2011.
