guy on the right wears spandex and practices while staring at himself in a mirror:)

True, true, except that he almost certainly only practices posing rather than playing guitar....

Very Happy

Fixed it.

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

Ack! Why do you guys even have these images?!

Everyone keeps a stack of Iron Maiden images around just in case some chunderhead claims that you can't play metal with a Fender.

QFT.

And this thread was well past the point of saving long before Maiden entered the picture.

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

I tried though.

It was an admirable effort.

Save the thread? If anything maiden pics enhance/top off a thread... the original poster should be happy to have such a thing happen:)

I wanna play just like him when i grow up...

So Elliot from The Cars claims that guys like Jerry Cole played Tele's on thier surf session work. Claims like these is why so much erroneous information gets spread around. I doubt if I have to tell anyone on this forum what Jerry is playing here...

image

Cole also played a Duo-Sonic and a Mustang around that time.

Thanks for the breath of fresh air Klas. I wish you would have chimed in earlier! This thread might not have turned into the trainwreck that it became.

Here's some pics of Wrecking Crew regular and surf/hot rod session ace Billy Strange with his signature guitar...

An interesting article about the Wrecking Crew. It won't clear up the surf songs or not debate, but it's still an interesting read.

Paul

Jerry Cole did an interview last year or so with Vintage Guitar where he stated that he did those sessions with a Tele. Fender gave him a Jazz but he did not like it and rarely used it.

Thanks Colt... I'm a huge Wrecking Crew fan. I think the debate is pretty clear but I certainly won't twist anyone's arm! Very Happy

Here's a cool pic of session ace Glenn Campbell on stage with The Beach Boys playing his Strat.

If that was the case, it actually does look like he's having a hard time playing that JM on the album cover photo... Laughing

I think the tele was way more prevalent for session players during the mid sixties go-go/gilligan guitar era than the surf era.

Indeed! Here’s another shot of Jerry Cole in the proto-surf group The Champs. .. again with his signature Jazzmaster.

In his later years he was seen with a Strat, but still no Tele in sight.

Man, Gary Usher is getting left out of a "greats" toned thread again...everybody else gets mentioned but him.

He was a strat guy too, correct?
