My "prize" Yamaha is a MINT '69 SA-30. Kind of a cross between a Mosrite & a Gibson ES-330. Mines a cool "Seven-up" bottle green and came with the original case & some case candy. Pickups look like mini-humbuckers, but are single coils. Once I got it set up and sorted out, I found out it sounds VERY good. A unique, but usable sound.

These look pretty sick! I'm not sure of the rarity- is this one yours by any chance?

I believe that's an SA-15, but it is the same shape & layout (the color is close to mine). The SA-30 has a different vibrato, and the headstock matches the body color. Pickups are different. The SA-30 is a set-neck. I read somewhere of a Surf group on the East Coast who used one.

Thanks Felonvert! That's it-and a nice example at that! If I had that one along with my green one, I'd have the perfect rig for Christmas Concerts. I notice the one in the pic is missing the vibrato bar. Before I got mine, a local pawnshop had a green one like mine, but not in as good condition and missing the bar (no case either). That got me researching, and after nothing but good reviews on Harmony Central & other forums, I went back to buy it-GONE! I was disappointed, but about two weeks later, mine popped up in a weekly "shopper" paper. I called the guy and he was looking for a solidbody "strat style". I traded him a Fernandes "57 RI" straight across for my mint '69, case, & case candy. I couldn't get it to intonate, so I took it to a pro and he got everything right. Fun guitar to pull out a jams and someone is always wanting to borrow it to record.

Hi, all--

I'm new here, and just found this thread. I have a metallic-red SC-300T that I got off eBay recently for $160--not bad! I had to sell off some guitars and stuff, but this one I'm keeping. I don't play well at all, but I enjoy noodling, and this guitar sounds great (imho).

Unfortunately a trem bar got stuck and broke off (!) in the threaded hole, and everything went dowhill from there. The stub was much stronger than the bridge around it, which started to crumble as I worked to remove the stub. The metal is incredibly brittle.

So now I'm trying to get a G&L Dual-Fulcrum vibrato, which is the only non-locking vibrato I can find that will (should? might?) fit the 74mm-spaced pivots on the SC-300. Fingers crossed...

Arf, too bad, these are preatty rare guitars !
The sg2c and sg3c were the cheapest guitar of the Yamaha catalogue at that time, not suppose to be great guitars but they are unique in their king !

Wow, I can't believe that went for $565 US in that condition. It makes me wonder what these are worth in good condition.
