Ok not classic Surf gear, although I would hazard a guess that many U.S instrumental bands in 1959-'63 were using tweed Fenders. however it's vintage vibe is second to none - i've had a replica of a 1959 'high power' tweed twin built - fitted with celestion gold speakers. Hand wired, top spec components, quality cabinet. Yup, it sounds pretty amazing
built by Martin Garton of gartone amps over here in the U.K
He's also currently building me a reverb/tremelo unit that fits in a Fender outboard reverb unit size chassis.

Beautiful -- congratulations! I love that lacquered 'tweed' look. Are you going to use it as a surf amp?

Yes - Martin's currently building me a reverb/trem unit that fits in a Fender outboard reverb chassis. I had a '65 RI Twin reverb but it always sounded a little too 'nice'. This has plenty character and with the reverb unit, it'll be absolutely rocking.

Very nice... lacquered tweed may not look as "surfy" as blonde/oxblood, but I think it has a great 50's vibe. I bet this sounds amazing too, enjoy it!

Yes it isn't the obvious choice for Surf inspired tones perhaps, but considering Fender stopped making tweed amps in 1960 - meaning shops would most likely have stocked them new into '61 - a lot of those very early instrumental tracks like The Ventures 'Walk Don't Run' or 'Stampede' by The Scarlets would have been recorded with tweed Fenders rather than the blonde amps.
But yes, I guess i'm more of a '50's guy - I play a Fender CS' 56 Stratocaster and Nocaster through it. Shame I can't grow a greaser's quiff anymore...
