Rotnroby... that's one right sexy bastard ya have thar!!

beautiful amp!

still dont agree with nasally and focused thing. BUT.. I should have said
"as it pertains to Brownface fender amps" (vox sounds terrible in closed back, as would my drip rail princeton I modded with a 12" celestion)

I'll agree there is no comparison to an
open back cab's spacial qualities (if the amp is built good enough)
but that is simply because of the sonic spread out the back. Youre
getting reflectivity happening everywhere. Plus the speaker ends
up being less efficient just hanging there with absolutely no back pressure
so cone breakup happens sooner and your instruments clarity is compromised. ( open back audio speakers/monitors would be horrible)

btw.. its always the openback amp guy that gets told to turn down before me
and my closeback because his sound is EVERYWHERE on stage Smile

OMG!!! That's freakin hilarious!! My drummer is the biggiest ASS!! In the world.. And he knows it!!! He's sooo Freakin loud and I never tell him to turn down NEVER!!! However, he's tellin me to turn down every time I use my 64 Virbroverb!! Open back cabinet.. Never has he said turn down when I use my Bandy!! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know if its the open back, but my neighbor swears he can tell what brand of picks I'm using when I play my twin. His house is 100 yards from mine.

I signed this.

Its true man! My rhythm guitarist in one band used an AC15 with his duojet and everyone in the band complained he was too loud. He use to get very angry about it but I think it was more the fact he is a high powered attorney and didnt like us tellin him what to do all the time.
Funny thing is though, had he got himself a closeback cab rig his grief would have been OVER. Smile

btw.. cracked me up about your twin and the neighbor. My neighbor always sez "I hear alot of bass n nothing else"

Yeah it's like the lowrider car all Bass!!! license plate is rattleing off the back of the car!!! Still no high end LOL!!!!

so i just built my self a cab of 2x12 jensen c12k's, to go with my guyatone clone of a twin reverb head, and at the moment it is open like a combo with two panels across the back, but a gap in the middle. (still waiting on the tolex and grilleclothe to finish it off)
at the moment it is huge loud and very trebly (speakers are yet to break in tho) but if i where to build a fully closed back how would the sound change? would it just get tighter harmonically?? would it thin the sound down?? bassier? trebblier?

Its going to get way punchier in the low mids, but because they are not warm speakers like celestions are you might need weber beam blockers on the coils.

ps. you can break your speakers in with a few tricks I've learned from how avatarspeakers.com creates their hellatones (broken in V30 and G12H30)

I've always faced my cab at an angle so the bass and drummer are getting it directionally whether the gig did or didnt have a nice monitor mix.

I always face away from the drummer and bass player and everybody so I can turn it up where I want it and not kill anybody but me.
I used to point directly at a wall or far off away now im slightly pointed off at nowhere

No body wants my showman on 6 pointed at them. Especially with the 15" that doesn't really develop for several feet
