There's absolutely no point to this, other than the joy of learning another one of my favorite songs. And also that Ray Harryhausen is awesome.

Mar Gaya

This is recorded with Z's old Mosrite in drop-D tuning. If anyone's interested in having the backing track, I could probably up it somewhere. Hope you enjoy it, please ignore the flub during the blind man scene. Confused

Nice work!

That's great! The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms is one of my favorite sci-fi movies of all time.

Laughing If only there were a career in this...

Colt: me too, ya can't call yourself a scifi buff without digging the early stuff.

Radical,
thanks for sharing.

Jeff(bigtikidude)

Aptly described "sinister" tune! Great cinematography once again - and solid playing no matter what you say. Well done, Michael!

With that roster of recorded tracks growing before my very eyes, I think you've got a spot brewing in Crispy's Instro Summit next year Very Happy

Thanks chaps... Onslow, I'm not too optimistic I'd ever find any instro-surf players in my area, but a jam next year would be pretty nifty.

Wow, my monitor almost went into meltdown! very cool stuff.

It is great playing Michael, the vision really makes it work!

'Surf Music Lasts Forever'

What everyone else has said. Great playing, great sounding guitar that's a perfect match for the atmosphere of the tune. What amp & reverb did you use? One of my favorite sci-fi films. And, there are a lot more movies you can do this with. Playing scenes from these classic sci-fi films during a set is a great idea.

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

That's cold-blooded Morphball!!

I'm surprised at the Youtube response saying to "not to use too much reverb." Has the guy heard Randy Holden on the original?! It's soaked in reverb!

@drumguitar: thats exatly what i thought when i read this comment.

@morphball: i really dig your playing and sound!

With surf music, its hard to have 'too much reverb'

'Surf Music Lasts Forever'

That would be HUGE if you could make your Mar Gaya backing track downloadable here on SurfGuitar 101. I dig playing that song, would killer to be able to play at home with out the band. Got my fingers crossed it'll happen...

Woah I remember this thread, thanks for digging this up! Glad this is still listenable, haha. Yeah, hearing it again a couple years later, I don't think I went too overboard on the 'verb either, but to each their own I guess. Thanks for listening guys!

rockanillysurf: One of these days I'll upload the backing tracks for these little projects, I've already got a few mixed down from personal requests over the last couple of years anyway.

It's my trusty Gomez El Sonido & G-Spring... that Dario makes a mean amp.

Enjoyed that very much! Never saw it before.
Menacing, heavy reverb surf, Mosrite, Ray Harryhausen...how could you go wrong?
