Permalink Did Don Wilson play bass in the early years?

I'd have some pictures to validate this but my comp with the scanner just started acting up today and I haven't been able to fix it. I have the Ventures Pipeline Song Book and on one of the first pages you see some shots of them in the early years. The top two are of Don Wilson(cited in the book as being around 1950 I think) and he's holding some guitars. In both they appear to have 4 really big tuning pegs. Did he ever play bass for the group? The other interesting thing I saw was he had a thumb pick in one of them. I could be wrong about all this and once my comp is working I'll get the page scanned so I can get a picture on this thread to show what I'm talking about. If someone else could confirm this for me though or even upload the pic themselves if they have the book that'd be awesome! I just thought it was kinda weird that he had the bass and was curious if he ever played it on any of their early recordings?

Heres the book in question:

I tried googling for the pictures but couldn't find them. if I find the pics online I"ll post em to show you all.

I couldn't find the other picture though. Looks like Nokie is playing a start in it and Don on bass.

wow great picture that is one i had never seen before, i'm sure they all played the bass at various points in the bands long history,i know nokie left for a while and i believe didn't play on one or two of their earlier albums and i think don played bass around that time until nokie returned full time on lead guitar.......and bob on the bass....

I wonder if those are the same instruments from the cover of "Walk, Don't Run." It looks like it, only Don is holding the Strat, Nokie is holding the bass, and Bob is holding the Jazzmaster. I think it's the same drummer too.

I've got another one where its just him sitting down and he's got a bass in it as well. In both he looks to have a thumb pick on.
