Deke records those things every year and sells the DVDs on his site.

Actually Deke only has DVD"s for 06,and 07 for sale at the moment.

Yeah, it takes him a little while to get them released I guess.

10 new Terry reissues just released by King Records! Most of them haven't been available since the mid 90's and a couple of them have never been reissued before as far as I know.

Nice! Gotta keep an eye out for some of these for sure.

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

There are some overlapping songs on the mid 60's albums but one should not always be fooled by the tracklists since sometimes the songs are different versions. That goes for the Let's Go Eleki Symphony album as well which has quite a few of the titles from the Let's Go Classics album re-recorded.

Good Golly Miss Molly 'Ive got a lot of catching up to do with all these new re-issues of Takeshi Terauchi records. Thanks for the link Klas!

Reverb, It's A Way Of Life!

I've been a fan of Terry for many years and have built up quite a collection of cd's over the years but despite countless hours of research I have never come across a decent discography of his innumerable releases - apart from the Bunnys recordings which are pretty well catalogued.

Does anyone have even partial lists of his Blue Jeans releases? I'm trying to build as complete a collection of his original recordings as possible. The Japanese Record industry practices seem to have been bizarre in terms of releases and repackaging etc.

Is there any truth in the rumours of almost 300 original albums?

Here's hoping,

Mike

Here's a supposed complete listing.

Not sure if it is. Welcome to the board.

Many thanks Richard,

What a great forum - so good in fact with so much info on it that I had actually overlooked exactly what I have been looking for (for nearly 20 years!)while reading a related post yesterday which was posted by Klas in 2010

http://www.wrock0011.com/takara/blue1/blue1.html. As he points out the main flaw is that the cover art is tiny so it's hard to ID. The discography itself is great though and the online translators have improved somewhat in the last few years!. I have many happy hours sifting through this mammoth backlog to look forward to over Christmas.

Cd Japan is a brilliant source. I have built almost my entire Eleki collection thanks to them.

Mike

Yeah man, it's a humongous resource. I often have to remind myself to search before starting a thread. Anything you want to know that's surf or instro related has likely been discussed here. Hope you stick around.

Pretty cool resource for Terry and non-Terry eleki, IMO.

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

Many thanks Cap'n! From what I gather you are the resident expert on all things eleki. I actually came across the republic of Eleki site more than a decade ago while chasing some Japanese only releases of Rautalanka Music from Finish Guitar Groups. It's a great site and a pity it seems to have been untouched since the early 2000's.

I also use the instromania.net site quite a bit since my French is passable but it seems to have gone offline in the past few weeks.

I thought I had made good inroads into Terry's back catalogue with over 40 albums because I assumed many of his albums were Ventures-like repackaging collections but I see the 200 plus mark may not be too much of a myth. The sheer scale of his work is nearly as discouraging as the language barrier in terms of getting a handle on his career.

Do you have any idea about how it came to pass that he seemed to have 3 record companies in the early 60's - King, Teichiku and Toshiba all releasing material at the same time and with different recordings on each?

The early times cd seems to have collected all the Teichiku material but I don't believe I have many Toshiba recordings apart from the Party Hit Album from 63/64 and the surfing album from 1964.

Again my thanks for the help,

Mike

Aw, I wouldn't say that - both Klas and Simon know a lot more about it than me, IMO.

I stopped trying to come anywhere near keeping up, to be honest. There's a couple Bunnys LPs and a few Sharp Five LPs I'm still on the hunt for, but for the most part I'm pretty happy with what I've got. Most of the '70s and later stuff doesn't really hold my attention with a few exceptions - Manatso No Umi Wo Buttobase, most of Rashomon (which I still need an actual copy of) and a few songs from This is Papeete Sound Fire - and there SO FREAKING MUCH OF IT out there that it's futile. The guy's been recording somewhat prolifically for, what, half a century? Plus, like you mention throw in the language barrier, plus the costs of international shipping, plus how much Japanese albums cost to begin with and ... yeah, maybe if I hit the lottery. It's great to see the reissues happening, though. Hopefully more labels will follow suit.

Pretty sure from that really, really early stuff I only have the Early Works CD, and to be honest I prefer the mid-to-late '60s recordings more. That made it easier to focus on what to track down.

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.
