it is much more common to see a man enraptured by a surf band.
I never thought about it before but an interesting view though
I like to see gear and hear the sweet surf tones @ shows but not the men in the bands sorry guys

DAMBIT!!!!! How did I miss her???? That's me sitting next to Richard.
However....there aren't enough women at surf shows. The cheesy rock cover bands draw crowds of them.

I don't know about you, but I think Richard is looking the wrong direction.

IIRC Bob Spickard was playing, which would explain Richard's focus.

I guess I see bands more than enough.
and am a little more aware of the surroundings.
than staring at the stage the whole time.
but I forgive ya guys.

Sticks took that picture (my camera... I was up near the sound guys), and it's not because we were looking for a candid shot of Richard. That guy knows what he's doing.
In fact, there was a lot of rubbernecking going on that day. It's Huntington Beach for crying out loud...

So.....when are we getting a SG101 Convention 2010 thread, Jeff???? Last year's thread opened on Jan 9th. We've lost an entire month of endlessly gabbing about who's coming, who isn't, and speculating about what will happen.

Just booked the Venue today actually.
wanted to do it at Don the Beachcomber in the Back room.
but they booked a wedding for the same date. grrrrrrrrr.
so I went back to the Starting Gate, and the guy said he would love to have us back,
and agreed to give me another hour of time.
So it will be Sat Aug 7th from 10 am to 8 pm.
still working on all the details of the whole weekend.
and confirming the bands, and working on the Possible Sun HB pier show,
in conjunction with the huge surfing contest.
But plan on coming out on Wed or Thurs. and leaving on Mon or Tues.
as I have stuff planned for get togethers on Thurs at my place.
and Mon. trip to the Wedge, The Plaque where the Rendevous Ballroom used to be, and the HB Surfing Museum, etc...
So I will be announcing the bands and all the other venues in a week or 2 hopefully.
Keep an eye out.

Guy,
thanks for doing all of this,
I know its a lot of work.
but it is great to have it all documented.
If you can come out for this years convention.
I will make sure that you are closer if you want.
and try to get some more light in there.

Jeff,
Thanks! I sure hope I can afford coming out again! It was a fantastic weekend, thanks to all of your hard work getting everything planned! You did an amazing job! Being closer and more light would help a bunch. I am always torn between being really close and not being able to get the whole band and having to pan back & forth. Or being farther back and being able to get the whole band in the shot. That way I don't miss anything, but also don't get as much detail. If I knew the way the band performed well I would know when special parts that needed a close up and could react. This allows the camera to be stationary. If the camera is stationary then the video will digitize better.
Thanks
Guy

I know the perfect place that is about 10 feet closer, and off to the right a bit.
will work out great.

I'm a proud female surf music fan. And surf guitarist.

Hi Strat54! Welcome to SG101! Very nice to know that you are one of the rare female Surf Music fans out there! Maybe you could take a second and introduce yourself to everyone? (see new thread)
