Hi!
I have a kit Jazzmaster with the generic vibrato installed. I would like to install a Bigsby B-5. My question is:
Can i install it without re-fill the big hole used for the standard piece?
Any pic will be welcome.
regards from spain!

You could probably go a couple of ways with that. You could use a B3 Bigbsy and not have to drill any holes, but you'd have to also severely raise the bridge and shim the neck:
Or, you could install a B5. Probably what you would need to do would be to remove the stock vibrato but keep the cover plate (in both cases). You'd have to drill a hole through the cover plate, and bolt the front screw of the Bigsby into it. The back screws would probably go through the wood body, depending on how you position the Bigbsy.

I don't know if it would work out well, but I can say that although Jazzmaster trems are my favorite Fender-made tremolo, I like Bigsbys much better.

If you do it, you would have to go w/the B-5. The bottom angle of the body would keep you from being able to install a trapese version cleanly. You might be able to cover the hole using some sort of plate which would bolt to the bottom of the B-5, but even a thin one would raise the unit which would mean some neck shimming. Another option would be to chop down a B-3 Bigsby unit (chop it just above the logo) and mount that to the face of the guitar. I've known guys that have done that on Gibson Les Paul Jr type of guitars with pretty good results. Here's a video Lindy Fralin put together showing his custom double cut w/P90s and the chopped B-3 Bigsby (his actually has a shallow route in the face of the guitar to accomodate the Bigsby):

I have no clue if it would work or fit, but what about looking into one of those Vibramate bigsby setups?

I use to have a ton of trouble re-stringing with a bigsby, now I have no trouble. I don't use this method, but you have tried changing one string at a time, so it keeps the tension on the spring?

The guitar player from Surf Cinema has a Jazzmaster that he removed the stock tremolo, and just put a Bigsby B-5 right over the hole. Looked fine from a distance, kinda strange up close.

Saw a post from Fender, on Facebook, about coming Jazzmasters with Bigsby B-50 vibratos.

Don't mess up a good guitar designed the way it is.
If you really want a Bigsby-equipped JM, I have a Squire JM that has no vibrato route, and I'll sell it to you. PM me.
Oh, never mind. I see you live in Spain.
Maybe consider just buying a guitar designed for Bigsbys. Or you could get one of those new mix&match Fenders.

6 years later, I hope he found what he was looking for. That's a long time to suffer from GAS.

That too! It's too silly. I have to go back and read who brought this thread back from the grave.
So I see Surfabilly mentioned the new mix'n'match products from FMIC.
<< SNARK TRIGGER WARNING >>
After six years, the collective voice of guitarists who can't be satisfied with run-of-the-mill offsets and their generic vibratos has grown to a proper market. We can thank the plethora of indy bands whose guitarists are such diligent hunters of the new & exciting.

As someone who built a telemaster, I would like to extend a snarky middle finger in your direction.
Of course, I also own a Jazzmaster, so I hope that restores the balance of being an fuddy-duddy and not a hipster.
Edit: that's a friendly and sarcastic middle finger, so none of you read too deep here.

As long as it's not a raised index finger and a goofy grin while holding a severed head in the other hand.
But I just find the latest FMIC gimmick galling.

the guitar is galling in that they didn't do a rosewood version. The gimmick is falling in that they're only making 500 of each color so you know they'll just end up with collectors.
However, a straight up tele in an offset shape is good. Comfy, curvaceous and good.
.02, ymmv, and that stuff.
