Baritone Quint or Quad Tuning?

Do you prefer a 5th lower (ADGCEA) or a 4th lower (BEADF#B)? I'm enjoying the new Danelectro Dead-On '67 (flat black) and like the 5th lower tuning because I can think of the note positions as if it was a regular tuned guitar but missing the "6th string". Also the 5th tuning is deeeep and thats cool. — What day is Surf Rock's birthday? Looks like Surf Rock and I was born the same year. Maybe we are both Libras? Top

I prefer the original tunig of the Danelectro & Fender VI-E to E and octave lower than standard guitar. i am too old to re-learn stuff in a new position. I've had an original Dano (actually one Steve Soest made from a vintage 4-string Dano) and a reissue "Baritone" which Steve assured me would handle E-E tuning with the right strings. Both are gone, although the original still resides nearby with my friend I sold it to. Day before yesterday, I picked up a Gretsch Electromatic Baritone with a BIGSBY! It is tuned E-E. I'm recovering from a root canal & haven't been able to give it a real workout yet. I'll report back when I do. Top

A to A just didn't have the "twang" I was looking for. I used it pretty much exclusively on Urban Surf Kings gigs in 2009. We've recorded over a sets worth of material with the baritone as lead over the years ( 5 or 6 tunes from the Surf vs the Flying Saucers CD, Tombstone Swagge_r from _Bang Howdy Partner CD, and all 4 songs on the_ Ski School_ 7 inch). It sure turns a lot of people's heads when it starts up. Our bass player uses a 5 string with a low B, so it makes sense on that level too. Also occasionally tune it to an open D (same as open G on guitar). Sounds massive; there's a lot of fun to be had there. Top

Where the strings too floppy, buzzing, hard to transpose? I never was a master of the fretboard but playing the baritone has improved my fretboard note awareness on my regular guitars. The tele feels like a little toy after putting down the Dead-On '67. — What day is Surf Rock's birthday? Looks like Surf Rock and I was born the same year. Maybe we are both Libras? Top

The tele feels like a little toy after putting down the Dead-On '67. I used to have a Jaguar Baritone Custom with a 28.5" scale. Tuned E - E the low E string was almost useless because of low tension making it too easy to bend. For instance, I see D'Addario makes Nickel Wound .024-.084 XL strings, in two different versions it calls "Jerry Jones Short Scale" and "Fender Electric Bass VI". I would presume the Bass VI strings would work, since this is a 30" scale instrument, and the Jerry Jones ones (which I think would fit a 27.5 scale) would be too short. However, beyond that, will the Innuendo accommodate .024-.084, tension, nut and tuner wise?
