Starkey's mod cymbals were awesome. I want some.
Yeah those cymbals were awesome! Why hasn't anyone came up with colored cymbals before this.I want mine to be silver.I can't stand the bronze look, but as a drummer it's something I've had to put up with it all these years.

I loved the Who, that wasn't the Who.
Agreed.
And regarding cymbals, most are brass because of how they sound. And I'm sure painting them affects the tone.

Zak's cymbals looked like some sort of electroplate...silver on the base layer with see-through red and blue...the bell might have been powdercoat...but the underside looked like opaque see-through color...

I give Zak, his cymbals and his kit a B+. Roger and Pete a B- (occasional glimpses of what they used to be). The light show was pretty cool for a big light show.
But the beginning of the 2nd half and the rest of the game eclipsed it all. I'm not a sports guy, but the Saints winning was bitchin'!

Surprised to see Townshend play a Strat with a trem arm after he put one through his hand doing the arm twirling thing. It would put me off!

Could have been worse, but could have been way better.
I wish it was 60's songs too, but I don't hate the songs they played either.
Roger's voice is going fast,
as is Robert Plant, and Brian Johnston's voices.
but after saying that.
I'd rather watch that, then Bruce Springsteen or Prince.

Not bad for a bunch of child molesters. (just kiddin', snicker, snicker).
For a couple of old geezers they weren't that bad. I'd lip sync all day long for that kind of cash.........

I think the sound of the painted cymbals was the least of their problems.

Indeed, I don't think anybody could hear the difference of painted cymbals in that situation.
Pinball Wizard just sounded so terrible, no thundering low end.

Geez give the Who a freakin' break. You people are being way too jaded. Do you have nothing better to do than criticize some aging old rockers.I like to see you guys rock out like that when your that age.Sure it's not as good as it was in their heyday, but it was pretty damn good.Stop being a bunch of whiners!

Isn't that the purpose of this thread? I am almost that age and I assure you that you would not ever want to see me trying to rock out like that. Maybe if I hadn't glimpsed the folds of Pete's belly I wouldn't be so offended. Maybe my problem is that I saw the original Who. The notion that they were pretty good for old guys is unacceptable, good is good. If you can't do it anymore, time to leave it to those who can. This is the big time.
What the hell was Pete doing at a child porn site anyway? He has been cleared because he did not download anything, but I don't buy his "research" story. He still has some splainin to do.

That really isn't the point though. There are plenty of bands that could have pulled it off, I don't think the Who did pull it off well and it seems there are plenty of others who agree, that's why there is so much talk about it.

You are right. Complete free pass for the who because they are old, and showed that they are old while only reaching a fraction of their former glory. And to give them the benefit of the doubt, I have seen them perform much better than this just a couple years ago.
As far as "old guys" go, I think only Neil Young is as relevant live as he was back in the prime of his career. And Elvis Costello is still great, but I don't think he is at "old guy" status yet.

You're right Carol.
Townshend + Daltrey doesn't= The Who any more than:
McCartney + Starr= The Beatles.
Jake is right-being old doesn't give you a pass-AND- WHO said "Hope I die before I get old"?
I wanted them to be great-and I was disappointed.
