thanks

Just a 5 minute walk apart.

and yes its the same weekend.

and there is also the Vintage Guitar show at the OC fairgrounds the same weekend.

I must say, the vintage guitar show sounds more appealing. I like rummaging through boxes of old guitar parts of guitar shows. Always a good time.

I hear you Jake,
but this is more of a Museum show piece vintage guitar show.
where there isn't much of what you are saying you like.

its more high priced guitars and amps to look at.
and buy if you want to pay 2 to 5 times what you could get them for if you look around.

Jeff(bigtikidude)

That's lame. NAMM probably does sound more appealing than. I really hate it when guitars are treated as museum pieces.

for me,
the Geek fest is the best of the 3.
Then I would say the Vintage guitar show.
then the Namm show.

but I have never been to that.
But I have seen videos, and heard that its mostly new crap,
and a zillion people, not my idea of a fun day.

Yeah, people equal bad. I do think there is some cool stuff at NAMM. Dario was there last year I think... and there is some nice stuff being made these days. Pedals, nice acoustics. Avoiding the spectacle that is Fender, Gibson, Ibanez, et al is the key.

Jake,
I don't think I went but maybe my brain is overloaded or it's my kinder twin. ;) I haven't gone in a while and will probably pass it up this year again. I think when you've gone a few times it loses it's appeal. At least for me. The groupie people that flood the floor makes it really uncomfortable AND loud. It seems to cease to being a "business" oriented affair. Nothing against folks not in biz showing up but I do think there should be some limits on the numbers of people going because it's hard to "talk" business in there (convention area).

I would love to exhibit there but with all that's on my personal life and this economy it's not even on the radar.

I've thought many times of having a Gomez Amps night and renting a place (e.g. Don's, Starting Gate, etc.) and bring bands out to play for a day on nothing but Gomez gear (pedals and guitars excluded). I would have to hire Jeff for logistics but I think it would be swell. That would not happen until brochures and a myriad of other supportive things were in place. It's on my bucket list. ;)

Dream Big Dario,
if it ever has the chance of happening,
I would be more than willing to help you with that.

Oh, no problem on thinking big over here in my head. ;)

Dario,
ha ha ha I don't have a problem dreaming big.
but my problem is I'm a pessimist also, and reality always rears its ugly head.

I thought that was what you did last year. Why did I think that...

In my 5 years "in the biz", it was sad to see all the eager newcomers proudly showing their creations only to disappear from the scene a few months later. There were some success stories like Joe Naylor & Reverend and a few companies like Brawley who had good products and ideas, but terrible timing.

That's the Jeff "reality" that kept me from exhibiting there. In my opinion, if you can't exhibit there for at least three years in a row given your business budget then it's not a a good move to go one year. save your money and place ads.

There is something/an element about being "established" that consumers gravitate towards. I for one consider it. Showing up one year then not the next isn't compelling. IMO, my thinking of the thought process is...the first year is more "shock" and the "arrival" of the company there. The following year, people then "look forward" to seeing "your" wares and feel more comfortable about buying from you. You've shown you're not going away anytime soon and a long-term warranty is now viewed as having some weight. The word gets out. You're branding a bit. You'll more likely be selling more than trying to introduce yourself because you'll be "known" a little or more depending on the circumstances.

I look at the SG101 convention as an example. My recollection...People (who didn't go first time around) having heard about the first year being so cool came out out for SG101 II-in addition to the previous year attendees. It was bigger the second year around and this year probably won't disappoint in the numbers of attendance. It keeps growing.

Thankfully, I have been graciously supported by my artists, my customers, this community and others around the world in getting the word out through word of mouth that if Gomez appeared there it would be recognizable and hopefully, would spend more time selling product. The branding process has taken that long (~4-5 years) and it's not at a point currently at which I'm satisfied.

Anaheim Convention Center Arena Jeff. Have a rum and think it over...;)

Very well-thought-out Dario! Probably at least part of the reason you're still around. I remember talking to Gerald Weber of Kendrick one year. His thoughts were similar to yours, but since he has income from other sources, he could afford to subsidize his display.

Thanks for the kind comments. To be mentioned in the same sentence as Gerald is quite an honor. Worship
Thanks.

I went to NAMM last year and had a blast. The Guitar Geek fest was definitively the highlight. Some real cool guitars and even cooler music and people! My favourite guitar on display was the Phantoms Surfers Jazz/Jag Double neck!

The NAMM show itself can be quite trying on the brain and ears. Everything you love and hate about music is represented at the show, in abundant force

formerly SvD, bots.... member since 2006. Same game different name!

I will be at namm, come by the Santa Cruz Guitar Company booth 1710, Hall E!
