I indeed do do. That mistake is too funny to edit out. I'll leave it.

Sounds pretty terrible in my opinion. Also, Fender acoustics are generally something to stay far away from. |

Yeah, the acoustic sounds dreadful. Granted one shouldn't play an acoustic like an electric guitar. I've never tried one of those acoustics, but I've played a bunch of Fender acoustics. They are always completely underwhelming. |

That is definitely not the right acoustic guitar for Surf IMO. I have an idea for an acoustic Surf sound but I'm not going to tell anybody until I can record it and get rich beyond my wildest dreams. —The artist formerly known as: Synchro When Surf Guitar is outlawed only outlaws will play Surf Guitar. |

The majority of "acoustic" surf makes the mistake of just picking up any old acoustic guitar and just playing the songs as they would on electric guitar. Very few changes to the arrangements, not thought to mic'ing or eq'ing the guitars. I wouldn't want to play acoustic surf, but I can imagine some good tone for it, and how to get it, as well as how to arrange it. |

That's the way I see it too. IMHO, the electric guitar and the acoustic guitar are very different instruments much like a sporano sax and a clarinet are different instruments. The fingering chart may be the same but the approach has to be different. This seems to especially hold true with regards to arrangning. The sustain characteristics of an acoustic are so very different from those of an electric that there has to be an allowance made in the arrangement. I remember having students come in and play Hard Rock creations on their dreadnaughts and it always sounded bad to my ear. I actually do have an idea for some acoustic Surf and it's different from anything I heard on any recordings. At this point I haven't gotten far with the ideas because I need to sit down with my acoustic (which is currently 1,700 miles away) and woodshed it. The entire process is different from start to finish. —The artist formerly known as: Synchro When Surf Guitar is outlawed only outlaws will play Surf Guitar. |

Jake, you and Synchro are on the money. The Duo-tones are mentioned in an early post. Their first CD-recorded by PJ is all-acoustic and is a masterpiece. Both PJ and Gil are master rhythm players and know where to add grace notes and embellishment to compenste for the reduced sustain of acoustic instruments. |
