Good point. Up to a point, so can I. I retract my suggestion and retire to think about it.

(My reservations concern occasionally expressed doubts as to whether what I do can properly be described as either driving or singing. Plus, I only sing when there's no one around to comment on either.)

Kawentzmann
I can drive a car and sing.

I only drive when I'm too drunk to sing.

...i only sing when i'm 2 drunk 2 drive....

"everybody know about the bird, bbb bird bird bird..... oops, no officer, i haven't been drinking tonight....sss surfer joe o o oh,....."

I cannot play single note lines and sing. The key is writing your own songs, and then practicing and performing them. After that, it becomes easier to tackle anything.
You want the guitar playing to be muscle memory/background thinking, and the vocals to be what you are concentrating on, so you are in pitch, so practice.

I can play and sing at the same time, never thought it wasn't possible, but I'm lousy at both. To witness a guy that can play and sing you have to check out John Martyn, a song such as May You Never sounds like it has a snare but is just him slapping the strings on the fretboard in between the melody notes.

I saw footage of Frank Black recording a vocal line without a guitar when the Pixies were around the first time. He had no guitar but his hands were still doing the guitar motions! Looked like it helped him keep in time.

When we first started we tried Secret Agent Man with vocals but it did not work. Converted it to an instrumental and it's much more fun to play. Must say my guitar playing has improved since I've just focussed on it. Seems my singing hasn't got any worse!!

I've been singing and playing since I started playing. Some songs-especially with syncopated rhythm-are still tough. Biggest improvement came when I stared playing in a trio and a duo. Now I have no choice but to figure out a way to cover vocals; rhythm & lead playing.

I can play and sing at the same time. I have been doing it for a long time.
But no one wants to hear it.... Embarassed
