Hey,

Longtime bassplayer, new guitar player. Looking for a good set of instructional DVD's devoted to surf guitar. Is there such a thing? Thoughts, review, ideas, all help appreciated.

Moved to surf musician.

There were 2 VHS cassettes of instructional video I got more than 10 years ago at a guitar center. Epiphone sponsored them, so the gear was all wrong and no reverb in sight. But the guy showed how to play several surf standards. Volume 2 got away from surf but had some spy and rockabilly type stuff on it. I saw them on DVD years ago and they were even available as free on-demand programming on my cable TV too.

Oh, here is volume 1 on Amazon:

I can't think of any others myself. I know that there are some decent books out there, Hal Leonard has one simply called Surf Guitar that has both tab and notation.

The artist formerly known as: Synchro

When Surf Guitar is outlawed only outlaws will play Surf Guitar.

Here are some you tube lessons for Surf Guitar. Not the best, but free and it is a place to start.
Books are out there, and the videos are very few. I suggest you have come to the right place. Just check the archives here for info. There is some great stuff here, and it is from the experts at surf guitar. I'd say they are hands down the best!

I have seen this guy in multiple tutorial surf videos and know he works at a Guitar Center ... but does anybody knows about his band?

When you have to shoot ... shoot! Don't talk.

Those Song Xpress (Warner Bros.) videos are pretty good. You could also check out my buddy Jason Lee:

Jon's video (5 down on the list from Joels link above) is just great. I've watched that one many times. He's just hanging in his garage with this great strat and the camera angle gives you an excellent view of the fretwork.

Man, wouldn't he be great to have as a neighbor.
