The topic is "Best surf cover," thus any and all answers besides DD's "Misirlou" are completely wrong. /thread. —That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it. |

It's more "lounge-exotica-surf," but in this opinion, Gerry McGee and The Ventures doing "Quiet Village is THE best that song has ever been covered. Gerry arguably picks THE finest long bridge that song has ever or will ever have played. |

Someone found a way to make AC/DC look even more ridiculous than usual. The artist formerly known as: Synchro When Surf Guitar is outlawed only outlaws will play Surf Guitar. |

Not being steeped in the tradition, therefore no where as knowledgable as you guys....my two pennyworth. Pipeline......by the Ventures. Many in UK think they made the original. |

I think that this happened with a number of songs. I grew up listeining to The Ventures Play Telstar so a lot of the songs on that LP will always be Venture's songs to me. I never even suspected the Apache was someone else's song. The artist formerly known as: Synchro When Surf Guitar is outlawed only outlaws will play Surf Guitar. |

Add me to that list. In Charleston, SC in the 60's, I learned Pipeline, Mr. Moto, and Apache off Ventures records and I still play Miserlou the way I learned it off The Surfaris LP. |

Casbah by Sandy Nelson is a killer tune no doubt. Satan's Pilgrim's do a very nice version of it as well. The conundrum is that Richie Polodor takes a song writing credit for the Nelson version but it's in fact heavily based on Casbah by Ganimian & His Orientals. The two arrangements are vastly different and they're in different keys so you be the judge if they're the same tune... It's closer to the Ganimian version. Here it is... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_R5b47_24k —BOSS FINK "R.P.M." available now from DOUBLE CROWN RECORDS! |

Norm, I don't think that they are the same. and the LSJ's also play the Orientals version too. —Jeff(bigtikidude) |
