The great Miserlou clip from the Capitol Records promo film King Of The Stomp, shot at the Harmony Park Ballroom in Anaheim, California has been posted here before. However, the film also had 5 other songs by Dick & The Del-Tones. One of them was a great take on Greenback Dollar (a studio version was included on his King Of The Surf Guitar album), which I hadn't seen before. Also new to me were the songs Teen Beat and All Night Long, where he plays the drums and sax, respectively. And check out those great crowd shots!

There's a homemade DVD floating around ebay called "Outta Sight Surf", it has those DD clips plus some other cool clips. It's not the greatest quality but it's inexpensive. Wink

I got a copy of that bootleg "Outta Sight Surf" DVD at a record swap a while back as well. Great footage! It's interesting to see kids doing "the pogo" 14 years before punk rock. Also interesting to note that the only actual "surf" that Dick plays in these clips is Miserlou.

O would like to see a color photo of that light burst JM.

The Exotic Guitar of Kahuna Kawentzmann

You can get the boy out of the Keynes era, but you can’t get the Keynes era out of the boy.

I believe it's blue. You can see it in Beach Party and/or Muscle Beach Party (can't remember which one right now).

Who's playing the lead guitar while DD is on drums? That guy rips in his own right.

"It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea

Could this be that lightburst JM after all these years ?

I took this pic at this year's HBISM surfin' drums finale concert.
This is Norm of Norm & the Surf Rockers with the white Strat.
Norm mentions that the man on the far right, who is a Surf Rocker, with the ultra groovy green JM, is an original Del-tone.

Looks the the same guy, same guitar ? I kinda think so.

OK, how do you post a pic ? I put the img tags , tried the src tags. No go.

The img tags only work when the URL ends in .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, etc. You might have had the URL of the flickr page but not the photo itself.

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

I believe that Nick O'Malley is the guy in the HB Surf Museum pic with the blue Jazzmaster, and I'm 99% sure it's him next to D.D. in the first photo. I know he plays with the Surf Rockers.

Oh, and I think it was Art Munson playing guitar while Dick played Teen Beat. We had a thread with him a while ago. He answered a bunch of questions.

here it is

It was Munson.

Nice Bump, SurfBeat/Joe! This thread pre-dates my time here so I'd never seen that video footage Klas originally posted. Some pretty incredible footage to be sure! Bonus treat to follow that other link (conversation w/ Art Munson). Cool
