Well, since I was told to NOT see it, I checked it out. Well, half of it.

Klas
I have almost all of their albums up to 1967. After that, The Ventures simply doesn't exist to me.
I agree with Klas about '67 being the cut off for the Ventures LP's. But nevertheless, I'm glad they stayed together and kept playing live or else I never would have gotten to see them in the 90's. Live, they stuck more or less to their classic sound except for Mel's electric drum pad solo. I don't consider myself a hard-line purist (well, maybe for some things) but the electric drum pads sounded terrible and made me cringe. That aside, they put on a great show.

It does make you want to reassess pretty much everything . . .

I don't get why you guys don't like it. It has semi naked chicks, hot cars, guitars, cheap tequila, stage presence: its the best video I have ever seen! At least they aren't staring at their shoes during the whole video.

I do see the sarcasm in your post, but I think the foremost problem with the video is the music. Second is everything you listed, which is the Ventures being dirty old men.

I too get the sarcasm... but Mel Taylor in that make-up is truly a nightmarish vision. There are some things your eyes can't un-see

the only good thing about that video was Rodney Bingenheimer and the GTO.
after that it went downhill way fast.

oops, I quoted myself.
Yes, it was sarcasm and my attempt to be snarky (what ever that means). There may be some civilians out there beyond the reach of SG101 who think this kind of video is high art. The bass player with the long-haired wig and bad teeth is priceless.

I took it like they were having a bit of a laugh at the expense of hair metal. It seemed like a mockery of a typical Motley Crue video. And I personally thought it was hillarious! The Ventures in glam-rock/hair-metal makeup had me on the floor. Though I agree, there's really no need to see Don Wilson shirtless...
Anyway, lighten up, y'all! I'd bet you their tongues were firmly in their cheeks for that video....
(Now, who actually think it's Gerry McGee playing those leads? No way in hell....)

Finally someone get's it.Ivan you nailed it right on the head. The whole video was to poke fun at hair metal, which I so happen to like some of.:headbang:
The whole thing was a joke, and nothing else.So all the people who were cringing in their seats,go watch Comedy Central and get your sense of humor back geez!

I only made it half way thru the video - I did like Don Wilson's guitar - what was it? Looked like a Sharp 5 model....

It looks like some Japanese-made late-'80s Ventures model (I suspect they may have had a "Ventures-model" made by one Japanese brand or another pretty much continuously over the past forty years!). But yeah, it does look like a Sharp 5 model...
