Dare I admit our bassist uses a bass synth pedal and delay. But only for between songs time travel noises! —Danny Snyder Playing keys and guitar with Combo Tezeta Formerly a guitarist in The TomorrowMen and Meshugga Beach Party Latest surf project - Now That's What I Call SURF |

Wannes, Truth be told, I am ctually get a llittle ashamed when I mention the fact that I have a chorus pedal on my board. I used to put it on to drive Kenan (the original Lava Rat bassist) crazy -- he would sometimes stop playing if I did it. I'll post some pics of my board in a little bit when I get the chance. It was apparently enough to inspire Ferenc to build a similar board. ~B~ |

wasn't me Bill. I own nor use a chorus pedal but in fact I like the effect problems that people have with it is because most stompbox choruses sound very metallic (which is NOT the effect as it should be) and because many people use too much of it. but I don't hate modulating effects. Cant see much use for it in surf, but I ve got nothing against it. Ferenc has a really narrow long one right, with PDM kanoo(sp?) stickers? wr —Rules to live by #314: |

Sorry Wannes, I think that Ferenc's long board with the canoe stickers is the one I'm talking about, but won't swear to it. I just know we'd discussed it at a Surf Sunday. ~B~ |

Well, I had been using a Gibson GA-5, but it quit working so I returned it. Right now I'm using one of them little battery powered pignose, til I finish building my 5c5 Pro amp (This one's actually got 2 volumes and a tone knob so technically it's 3, but I might lose the tone control if I don't like it). If your amp sounds good to begin with, then all really need is one volume knob in my opinion. Then you can just set it to the proper volume then let your guitar take over to adjust volume/gain and tone. I hate fiddling with the knobs on the amp and can't stand the modern standard of 3 or more band eq. |

i got a spider 75 watt job. only use the verb and trem. all programmed up for clean surf sounds. my roland bc20/2-10s isgone. no verb. gotadigitechTHING that i run into 2 roland micro cubes. fun little pile of trash. got a 1999 peavy bandit in the closet-should go in the trash. a twin reissue would be nice threw out(sold) all my old pedalsfrom the hippy and jazzrock days. i want an amp with 1 volume, 1 tone, off/on switch, ground switch, 100 watts tubeand 2-15s. will get a reverb tank for itand have a go!!! |

I have a couple modelers, DigiTech and Zoom but now they're just headphone amps. I use a Wasabi (Danelectro) Distortion for punk and garage sounds and it has a boost switch that works without the distortion engaged. I also like the way the single/humbucker switch makes my MIM strat sound. It's got four pre- set distortions, two are very metal sounding which i don't use but I like the "flat" position and theres a position that gets sorta thin and fuzzy. It also has a dry/ distortion mix knob that I haven't figured a good use for yet. Dean(aka Moondevil) |

Id be interested in that mod, details please!
I recently saw the tijuana bibles live and one of the guitarists used one. sounded absolutly horrible for the way he used it, i.e. pseudo-reverb with overdrive. truely ugly, tho I imagine it would serve better as slapback echo for clean rockabilly. didn't matter, sound wasn't that important for the TB show, but I'd never use it in a surf band looking for a more trad sound.
