On the Double Crown website I posted a message asking fans to submit their top 10 surf songs/albums of the 2000's. Just seems like as 2009 comes to a close, it's the right time to take a look back at the decade and spotlight some of our favorite tunes and discs. I thought I'd post a message here, so people can post their faves here. If you'd also like to post on the Double Crown site, here's the link:
http://www.doublecrownrecords.com/2009/11/06/top-10-surfinstro-songs-albums-of-the-2000s/
The ballot box is being stuffed by Martin Cillia/Atlantics fans at the moment, so please weigh in with your faves, or if you're in a surf/instro band feel free to stuff the ballot box yourself!

Oh wow, where do you start? Surfites, Ghastly Ones, Satan's Pilgrims, The Tormentos...
Those are basically the things I've listened to in the past several days

Ryan, my list was very close to yours. I think I might have put Mission To Mir instead of Scandanavian Interlude for the Beat Tornados.
I would also add:
Frankie & The Poolboys
Pollo del Mar: The Golden State
And best non-surf album by a surf band: Satan's Pilgrim's Psychsploitation

In no particular order ...
- Royal Fingers - Wild Eleki Deluxe
- Pollo Del Mar - The Golden State
- Madeira - Sandstorm
- Thunderchiefs - Dig!
- Satan's Pilgrims - Psychsploitation
- Surf Coasters - Samurai Struck
- Nebulas - Nebula One
- Frankie & the Pool Boys - s/t

Note the distinct lack of Martin Cilia.

The Beat Tornados: Mission to Mir (2001)
The Nebulas: Nebula One (2002)
The Bambi Molesters: Dumb Loud Hollow Twang Deluxe (2003)

The Kilaueas: Professor Volcanova (2005)
The Phantom Four: Madhur (2006)
The Ghastly Ones: Unearthed (2007)

Frankie & The Poolboys (2008)
Los Twang! Marvels: Jungle of Twang (2008)
The Atomis Mosquitos: Meltdown (2008)
Satan's Pilgrims: Psychsploitation (2009)
It's been a great decade for surf!!! And 2008 was especially great, as Ferenc pointed out.
PS Though I think they're good CDs, I wouldn't put any of the new Atlantics stuff (or Martin's solo album) in the above list. Unfortunately (for me, anyway), they're a very different band than they were in the '60s - more like Martin Cilia and the backing band. Martin is a very talented guy, but it's a much less inventive and exciting band compared to the '60s. Who are all those people that posted on the DC website? Where'd they come from?

Glad to see I'm on the right track, I have most of the albums listed here and agree. Being proactive, I'm going to add any new Space Cossacks and Madeira releases to the list now.

Yep. Seems like a nice guy though, and his last album is really good... if you're out there Martin, you should join SG101!

Funny how most of the replies in this thread have the same bands represented, and yet none of them had to resort to that.

I don't think this is a case of "having to resort to that." Perhaps his fans didn't know about the Double Crown poll. I know that when the Austin Chronicle and Austin360.com post their periodic polls for best local band, label, etc., I (and every other band in Austin) always encourage our fans to vote for us.
Perhaps Martin's fans aren't on SurfGuitar101 and don't regularly visit the Double Crown Records site.

Yep, you're right - and I just checked, Mission to Mir is '01 - so they both go on the list! A long list....
(The Atlantics Flight of the Surf Guitar is '99 - FYI.)

Locked and Loaded can go on my list... I think I'll replace Nebula One with Locked and Loaded.

Or just expand your list to the Top 14 - which is what I did.

Here's my Top 10. Kind of the popular choices, but these are the ones that stuck out. I probably have 140 CDs from the double aughts, so its hard to make a top 10. Apologies to all, I'm sure your CD was #11.
In no order:
The Madeira- Carpe Noctem
Surf Coasters - Surf Attack
Satan's Pilgrims - s/t ('99 but I'm keeping it in)
Slacktone - Into the Blue Sparkle
Barbwires- Sea Rider
Los Twang Marvels- Jungle of Twang
The Mermen- Amazing California Health & Happiness Road Show
Insect Surfers - Mojave Reef
Los Meltones- Surf, Spy , Space
The Pyronauts- Surf & Destroy
Meshugga Beach Party Let's Go Shleppin'
Penetrators - Locked and Loaded
Kilaueas - Professor Vulcanova
It strikes me that 2008 was an incredible year for surf music!
(and thanks to everyone who mentioned my various projects!)
