i admit i don't know what i'm doing but i got the blueball mic and also a usb cord so i can go direct from guitar to computer. i like the tone so much better with the blueball but i'm finding it easier to record straight from guitar to computer but am not real happy with the 'surf' setting.
one good thing is the built in metronome really makes you aware of timing. the first couple of times i tried to record were not good but i think i'm starting to get it.
we'll see...........

Maybe try using one of the available drum loops to create a click track to play along with instead of the metronome. "Modern Rock 01" is a basic 4/4 beat that works well. Just drag it into the "tracks" and stretch it out to the length/time you need. Delete it when you add your real drums or whatever else you are going to use.

that was my next step but i i couldn't find a drum loop that fit the tune i was trying to record. i'll give that one a try. i'm also finding it's easier to record wearing head phones. this stuff is all new to me.

Also, "Motown Drummer 18" kind of has a surfy, double on the two thing going on.
It is kind of tricky to simultaneously hear and record what you're playing while still being able to hear the backing track. If you're miking your amp, you can turn up the amp volume so that the sound bleeds into the headphones. Adjusting the headphones volume to balance the sound. Just make sure you don't clip with the higher volume.
The track monitor seems to work best when recording direct.

success!......well, sort of. i used the modern rock drum loop........very sterile but it sure tightened up my timing. got the lead, rhythm and bass laid down for a tune. it doesn't sound great but it's way better than expect. i used the 60's bass and i don't like it. it seems a little thuddy (is that a word?) but it could be my lack of bass playing skill. what bass sound are you using?
gosh this is fun and a lot better than watching college football on tv (sorry all you football fans)

Sounds like you're on your way. That modern rock drum track is robotic, but it's very helpful for arranging and keeping things tight and cohesive.
I record bass direct from the "Line Out" of my amp, no added amp simulation presets. Maybe try opening the bass track details and adjust the eq, drop the lows a bit and adjust the mids to taste.

motown drummer 18 fits the tune i was recording much better. i'm going to try playing through my bass amp and see how that sounds in comparison to garagebands bass choices.

at the recommendation of a few of you i've found that recording from guitar to reverb tank to a pre-amp and then into the computer produces the best results. the pre-amp really helps.

Carol, are you still using Garageband or are you using Logic Express?
My laptop arrives on Wednesday, but I'm planning several recording programs out. I'll have to pirate illegally since Macs are so expensive, but I was thinking of Trying Propellerhead's Record, Logic Studio, and Garageband. I'll be using ReWire to inegrate those programs with Reason 4.0. I don't know much about Ableton, but I think I'll try that at some point as well.

i've just used garageband so far. i'm curious to see what logic express adds to the party but i haven't had time to put it to use yet.
