I play surf music and some "surf/hot rod" tunes. The song "RPM" by the Four Speeds is a hoppin' little tune that I like. However, I simply can't make out some of the lyrics, no matter how many times I listen to it. I've searched the internet, but I still can't find the lyrics.
Does anybody have, or know, the lyrics to this song. Below is a link to the song.
Here's what I have so far:
First Verse:
I gotta knock a second off to get a trophy run
One grand, two grand, rpm
My ?????????????
Three grand, four grand, rpm.
Thats why Im windin out, Im windin out, I gotta get my rpm
Second Verse
I gotta boared Chevy, you know, with a 411 lift
Five grand, six grand, rpm
A big chromed Jimmy ???????? a set of closed gears
Seven grand, eight grand, rpm
Thats why Im windin out, Im windin out, I gotta get my rpm
Third Verse
???????????????????
One grand, two grand, rpm
????????????????????????
Three grand, four grand, rpm.
Thats why Im windin out, Im windin out, I gotta get my rpm
Fourth verse
Time trials over and the eliminations on
Five grand, six grand, rpm
If I jump the gun before the light my trophy will be gone
Seven grand, eight grand, rpm
Thats why Im windin out, Im windin out, I gotta get my rpm
Reply or PM.
Thankshttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8YN1HoMwtc

It was part of our live set in the Daytonas during the early 90's and I recall we had a hard time picking out some of the lyrics and had to settle for some not making sense nonsense. I just gave the song a spin and still can't figure out some of those parts. I remember we sang something about a chimney and "Santa Claus" which I now think should have been "setting close" , haha! Great song anyway!

Jimmy Blower appears to make sense:

A set of close gears do as well since it helps keeping the revs up.

Three grand, four grand, rpm.
Thats why Im windin out, Im windin out, I gotta get my rpm
Second Verse
I gotta bored Chevy mill with a 411 rear
Five grand, six grand, rpm
A big chromed Jimmy blower a set of close gears
Seven grand, eight grand, rpm
Thats why Im windin out, Im windin out, I gotta get my rpm
Third Verse
I know a couple guys with cheaters that got more pm's
One grand, two grand, rpm
They better not use them or they'll be looking at the tm's
Three grand, four grand, rpm.
Thats why Im windin out, Im windin out, I gotta get my rpm
Fourth verse
Time trials over and the eliminations on
Five grand, six grand, rpm
If I jump the gun before the light my trophy will be gone
Seven grand, eight grand, rpm
Thats why Im windin out, Im windin out, I gotta get my rpm

Hey, thanks a ton. I kinda figured that there was some more "hot rod" lingo in there. The song is great. I stumbled across it on u-tube. I can't believe I had never heard it before. I'm always looking for cool "lesser known" hot rod tunes, so you know of any others, feel free to pass them on.

I wouldn't call "RPM" lesser known. There were at least a couple versions in the 60's and then later even Deniz Tek (of Radio Birdman fame) recorded it as well as Swedish band Sonic Surf City. The Four Speeds' version have been reissued by both Sundazed and Ace Records. If you're looking for the lesser known vocal hot rod stuff, I would suggest picking up some of the often great budget albums from the likes of The Woofers, The Blasters and The Dragsters.

Thanks for the info. I'll check out those bands. I didn't mean "lesser known" as "obscure," I meant it as "not as widely recognized" as some of the popularized Beach Boys hot rod songs.

Son of the Beach: if you're looking for more Hot Rod stuff, Gary Usher is the man to track down. He was responsible for producing the vast majority of the Hot Rod stuff and tons great surf stuff too. Check out the Superstocks if you haven't already. He co-wrote 409 and others with Brian and that's his 348 Chevy that you hear on 409 being revved up in front of The Beach Boys home. If you listen closely you can hear Brian saying "hold on baby" at the end as the car fades out. Love that stuff. Gary Usher is well known to a lot of us but surprisingly "unsung" by many people who dig Surf and Hot Rod tunes. There's a few best of CD comps floating around but one of the best ones is this kinda pricey one from Japan...

Ah, I see. Then I would just like Norman did above definitely recommend anything Gary Usher. Sundazed is currently offering all 3 Super Stocks albums for only $3.98 each although I would guess you might already have those. Highly recommended anyway.
