Brian - From this side of the monitor there's no stretching, but I'll try to avoid stretching page 2!
RockabillyKing - Yes, DGCFAD. Yeah, I was in a rush when I typed the tab, but yeah it's slightly different. Well I know plenty of Wray "tunes" unfortunately not quite as many of them in their entirety. Rumble & Jack the Ripper of course, The Swag, Genocide is actually probably my favorite songs by Link Wray. I need to start learning more full songs. Hopefully this thread will help me focus on that.
Cap'n - Please peel free to post some of those "licks"! Maybe we can splice 'em together and come up with something. I don't know about y'all, but I'm pretty slow and have a hard time picking up fast trilly solo parts.
Gotta love the Ramones!

Wraydar, (or anyone) please recommend some Wray albums. How many did he cut? I only have the "best of" I mentioned.

Here's two discographies:
http://rcs.law.emory.edu/rcs/artists/w/wray3000.htm - Original Vinyls up to '64
http://home3.inet.tele.dk/sba/disco.htm#45 - Everything else
Pretty much anything of Link's you can get your hands on is good in my opinion. I'm not too crazy about the Link & Robert Gordon material though. It's like new wave rockabilly, it still good though and you might dig it seeing how your a rockabilly fan.

There's an absolute ton of stuff. He kind of gave up on the instros for at least the first part of the '70s, though. The main problem with his discography is there's a ton of collections, best-ofs and alternate versions. There's also a lot of overlap between releases.
Besides that best-of you have, I'd say two good ones to track down are the Swan Singles Collection and "They're Outta Here, Says Archie."
For live stuff, I like "Live at the Paradiso" a lot. I think he cut it in '79--it's got a good mix of vocals and instros.

I'd advise you to be VERY careful looking for Link Wray tab on the internet tab sites. Three times I've looked for Jack the Ripper, and three times I got a computer viris from the web site or tab. BE CAREFUL!
I'd buy an entire song book just for the tab, but I can't even find one.

"Deuces Wild"--the beginning solo. Here goes nothing.

According to the liner notes of The Swan Singles, Link never played the song live--the day he recorded it, his brother Ray told him he should play it at a show that night, and Link said "Man, I can't even remember what I did."

Just to jump in on the original question, The Lava Rats throw "Rumble" in at the end of our cover of "Baja" - that combo is probably one of our main crowd-pleasers. Lots of stuff lots of people recognize in there.

I'd advise you to be VERY careful looking for Link Wray tab on the internet tab sites. Three times I've looked for Jack the Ripper, and three times I got a computer viris from the web site or tab. BE CAREFUL!
Here goes:
The chord hook is G-A. Sounds best as:
e:|--------|
B:|-0~-----|
G:|-0~--2~-|
D:|-0~--2~-|
A:|-----0~-|
E:|-3~-----|
The low note part is:
E:|-0-0-0-(/)5~-|
(Some people slide from G to A; it sounds good with or without the slide, though.)
Then the melody is:
e:|-12-12-12-12/15-15-15-15/17-17-17-17\15-15-15-15/17-17-17-17\15-15-15-15\-|
e:|-12-12-12-12\10-10-10-10/12~-12~----/10-10-10-10\9-9-9-9~-----------------|
The "chorus" is:
e:|----------------|---------------------------------|
B:|----------------|---------------------------------|
G:|----------------|---------5-5-7-5---------5-5-7-5-|
D:|----------------|-----7-7-------------7-7---------|
A:|-(0-0-0-3-0-4-0)|-5-5-------------5-5-------------|
E:|----------------|---------------------------------|
Just take the D chord riff through the changes (D-A-E-D).
The solo is just the following parts, but the timing isn't indicated:
e:|------------|-----------------------|
B:|-(10-10-10)-|-9/10-10-10-10~--10-10-|
G:|-(-9--9--9)-|-8/-9--9--9--9----9--9-|
D:|------------|-----------------------|
e:|----------------------------|
B:|-10/8-8-8-8~-8-8-8\5-5-5-5~-|
G:|--9/7-7-7-7~-7-7-7\6-6-6-6~-|
D:|----------------------------|
Hope this helps,

I tabbed Jack The Ripper and uploaded it to the Yahoo Group years ago. I will submit it here to this site, although it looks pretty much like what Warren has.

CaptainSpringfield, was that last post a continuation of Deuces, or Big City After Dark...?

The last one was "Jack the Ripper," which Joel requested. The solo in A was my attempt at the one at the beginning of "Deuces Wild."

Thank you so very much for posting the Jack the Ripper tab. I have an old Link Wray album on cd with Jack the Ripper on it, but I swear it sounds like his guitar is way out of tune to my ear. Hinch I was having a hard time figuring out what he was playing. I know most of his stuff is very similar and usually simple, but sometimes I seem to miss important parts because of the sound he is putting out.
Thanks for your help!

CaptainSpringfield I like it!! Thanks.
Ok man I'm rocking now!!! The tab sounds real good! I'm playing it on my Gretsch with heavy vibe and reverb, it really brings out the growl
Thanks again

Joelman, what type of Gretsch and amp? I've got a Hot Rod myself. Sweet Surf guitar if I do say so!

The Live version of "Jack" is tuned half a step up. That version rocks!

My Gretsch is 6120, a Brian Setzer model, solid flame maple. TV Jones filtron pups.
The tremlo is a Boss TR-2. Some people dont like it, but I like it. You can dial just about anything you want on this stomp pedal.
The Reverb is a '63 reissue Fender out board tank. It's new no changes yet.
The Amp is Fender Hot Rod Delux. This amp has been modified.( as all hot rods should be)
I just put on some new D'Addario 11 gauge ribbon wound 'Chromes' Strings.
Crank everything up about half way and tie your hat down !
I normally would be playing my custom strat, but I decided to try the Gretsch because it had new strings on it, and I really wanted to just break them in, but when I cranked it up it really started singing.

The Hot Rod Deluxe is a nice amp! I tried one out when I bought my Gretsch and was actually very impressed. I was looking for one in Tweed, and then took a right turn and scooped up a Super Reverb. Sounds like you have a similar rig..

What's your instrument and amp of choice these days?
Sounds like you've got a nice set-up. I have a Yamaha SGV 800:
... and a really crappy, underpowered practice amp.
-Warren
How do you like that guitar? I was thinking of getting one. They have a cool look. There was a great deal on Amazon.com
