Permalink tremolo bar in the case...

New Topic

do you leave your tremolo bar mounted in the bridge when you store your guitar in its case? or do you remove the bar when you store your guitar?

Leave it in. I have to much loctite and junk invested in there to hold that thing in place.
Besides, it doesn't hurt anything, putting pressure down on the bar releases tension, doesn't tighten it.

...but, doesn't pressing down on a Strat-like tremolo increase tension on the bridge springs? likewise, doesn't pressing down on a jazzmaster/jaguar tremolo compress the tremolo spring?

Thats what I have always thought, always thought you were supposed to take it outof a strat!

I take mine off.

I have (on purpose) bent the arm away from the guitar body a small amount so that I dont hit it when playing. But that means the guitar wont fit in the case with the arm on. It's not a big deal to me to just unscrew the arm.

Besides taking the arm off gives me time to look the guitar over before putting it in the case.....which it almost never is except for transporting form place to place.

You're probably right about the Strat, I was referring to a Jag.
I'd probably take it off on a Strat because it's easy to do anyway.

Missing option: I never store my guitar.

Yeah, I just had a gig bag, so I usually put my guitar on my couch or something.

don't "store" 'em, the nice onces are in stands at home, the rest piled up in a corner.
strat goes in gigbag wih the poke in place, jag's wigglestick comes of, because it wont fit in the case otherwise, which is not the standard Fender case, but a genuine El Cheapo. Rolling Eyes

I Leave it in, since I installed the rubber washer to hold it in place. I don't want to risk breaking the collets that hold the trem bar from pulling it in and out.

The Scimitars

I sort of do all of the above --
Naturally, with Mosrite and Bigsby tailpieces, I don't have a lot of choice in the matter. I also have a few other assorted guitars on which I leave the whammy on. I do take the wang arm out of my Jag, Jazzmaster, and Strat, though. I know I'm kinda putting the collets at risk, but I'd rather not have my bridge strings get stretched out from compression in the case.

I have a strat and I just spin it just past the output jack and it rests on the body so that when I close my hard caseit doesn't push down. Aren't you not supposed to take your arm off a strat once it's set? I used to but ended up breaking a bunch because everytime i put in in it was at a different level, and found the arm floppy and not stiff the way I like it.

The way my strat is set, un screwing it hits the guitar body for a few of the turns, I just rotate it to the corner and it is out of the way.

THe NEpTuNeS

Twisted Evil i lock up the entire trem thing and lose the armsoon afterwards. i can't stand the damn things Twisted Evil

have to take mine off since its custom and huge!
