Love the Star Wars figures!
Today I took my Fender Stratocaster on a trip to a technician to help me change from 10:s to 11:s and set it up better than it was when I left it.
I have a love/hate relationship with my guitar and by doing this I hope that I will stop to hate it.

What kind of Ampeg is that? I use a J12T and enjoy it quite a bit!

Awesome TMBG poster, MikeyD!
And to contribute to the thread... I'm using 10s as of right now but as soon as I get a jag that'll change.

I put on a set of 10-52's on my Strat and I don't care for the D,A,E strings at all. Too muddy after playing with 10-46's. Anyone else find this?

What type, what core, and what brand of strings?

Out of curiousity, I went to juststrings.com and looked at all flatwound different brands to see what is offered in 11's strings and how the other
strings vary. Quite a difference. Again, it's all in what brand everyone likes. Right now I'm using flatwound D'Addario 10's. Might want to go to 11's. Is there a different poll for different brands? I would like to see that.

There is no separate poll. But general consensus is that Thomastiks and Pyramids win. I don't think people have really weighed in on the Bennedetto sets.
And personally I don't like the Fender, D'Addario, or GHS sets. I've never tried the Pyramids(not worth the price).
Rotosound makes a set as well. The .12s are both really heavy and have a lot of tension. I still have them on my Jag. They've been on for a long time. I rarely play that guitar though. Pretty much saved for the studio.

I tried a set of Pyramids a couple months ago and they sounded amazing and played great.
But after that I put back on a set of Pure Blues and for the price, the difference wasn't huge enough for me to switch to Pyramids exclusively.

The D-R .011s have been nice the last two years-odd, for flats. For rounds, the D'Addario .011s do fine. Oh, with a wound 3rd, always.

I finally took the leap to 13 gauge flats on my Jaguar (from 11s) and I couldn't be happier. The extra tension seems to help the stability of the vibrato and there's a lot more authority to the tone of the guitar now. I also find it easier to switch from rhythm to lead playing with the heavier strings. I don't know that I'd go heavier than 12s on my Strat or Jazzmaster, but for the Jag 13s seem to bring out the best qualities of the shorter scale design.

Aha! So I'm one of the 6% using 009 flats... at the moment trying to give the JM a setup, and everything is rattling... anyone of my compadres expierienced with that?
Yes, I know the JM may be built for stronger strings, but... This might be more tricky than to take some leaps till 014s
Using nail polish and tape?

I've been using D'Aquisto medium jazz strings for a while now, and I'm 99 percent certain these are an identical unbranded version.
At $6.99 a set they're one of the best deals for good flats that I've found.

To me, arguably the greatest compliment from another musician, especially non-guitarists, is "Hey man, you have great tone", but I assure you, 99.9% of audience members neither know, nor care about tone.
This may be true for most pop and rock music but when it comes to Jazz, Surf or other types of guitar music I think a much bigger percentage of the audience notices tone.

I took the leap too!!! I'm now 13-56 gauge wow!! Talk about tone volume .. all my other jaguars and Jazzmaster have 12-52 gauge flats.. It's really sounding good on my 66 Jazzmaster though..

those 13's do present a certain "authority" ...
I'm glad to hear you are enjoying the larger guage...
