I have a BOSS MICRO BR 4-TRACK RECORDER. It's a great little I-pod size digital recorder with built in drum tracks, 50 or so guitar effects, and even a built in tuner. You just plug in your guitar and/or mic and start recording a track at a time (think 4-piece surf band in a small box) while sitting in the living room with headphones and not disturbing anyone.

I do find however I tend to do most of my recording on my computer using a comparatively inexpensive sequencer called POWERTRACKS PRO AUDIO, capable of recording 48 audio or midi tracks while using my MICRO BR as a DI box into the computer which I find much easier for going back and editing. It will also let you load mp3's or cd songs into it and will even figure out the chords for you.
Hope this is of use to someone.

Seriously? It figures out the chords of a song you load into the software? That's pretty cool. I wonder how accurate it is.

I just plugged in The Tomorowmen - "Chronosurf" from the link on your reply into PowerTracks and the chords popped up as DAD Em Em D Em DAD Em D Em DAD B7 C G D Em F G F Am .... and so on, and that's fairly accurate I think. I was able to play along with the recording.

Yeah but can it drink beer and kick a tank? Smile

Nope, but I sure can. Pass one over.

Shocked
Thems the right chords, though I don't remember if I put a 7th on the B. I wonder how complex a chord it can find e.g. diminished, -5ths etc..

It might be a B, but it plays well with the B7, hehe. Great song though. Congrats

Thanks Capesurf. I'm not sure but you may be close to our member Mom Surfing aka Carol who has a surf shop on Hatteras I believe.

I like holding the open B7. It is fun.

Sounds like a cool gizmo. I have an old cassette Tascam multi track recorder. Still works great, but who uses cassettes anymore. bought in the 1980's some time.

Hey capesurf, where did you buy it from? and just curious the price of it.
Father's day is coming!!! haha!! Are the other recorders that can figure out chords too or just that one?

thanks, hl

hlieboff59, the recorder itself is about $200 (Google it for best deal), but it's not the recorder that figures out the chords, it's the independent sequencer software, POWERTRACKS PRO AUDIO from PG MUSIC that figures out the chords. It also loads cd cuts into it, lets you section parts, and slows them way to learn leads etc.

thanks for the info. I looked on amazon and it's $197. not bad.

How would this differ from the Zoom H2 Handy Portable Stereo Recorder
that estreet just got. Is it basically the same idea and a different brand?
Has anybody researched these 2?

On Amazon, Zoom H2 has 329 reviews and the boss has on 12 reviews.
That's a big difference.

the Zoom H2 Handy Portable Stereo Recorder is a 2 track and the Boss BR Micro is a 4-track that you can independently record 4 different tracks. It's all in what you want. Heck, you can get an 8 track now for a bit more money. If you do any home multitrack recording, you can never have too many tracks

I use either my BOSS BR-600 or BR-1600 with the band.

I used the BR-600 to record Overboard http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6818279 along with my '66 Jazzmaster image and a patch on my Cyber-Twin created by my friend Gary Hoey image.
