I was going to post this in response to Deep Eddy Ted in that thread about the recent article on surf music. But I think it deserves it's own thread.
What labels are releasing surf music these days, besides Double Crown?
Didn't Golly Gee close up? Their fancy website is gone (or at least I couldn't find it). They still have a myspace page.
The last surf music related releases that MuSick records did was the Space Cossacks and then the Satan's Pilgrims best-ofs. Best-ofs, mind you, no new music. Maybe I am forgetting something though...didn't they re-release the Phantom Frank record? Their website seems to be gone also.
I bought some stuff from Green Cookie recently. I think it was the Tormentos and possibly Los Kahunas.

I just thought of Yep Roc (Los Straitjackets, SCOTS, Laika & The Cosmonauts). Not "trad" surf bands for sure, but in the same ballpark.
It seems like a lot of surf bands these days are self-releasing.

Musick did do the recent Fathoms CD.
But their surf releases are few and far between these days.

Sazanami Label in Japan does - or at least has fairly recently.

We just released our 31st and 32nd CDs by Los SuperAvengers and The Nematoads, respectively. In the last year, we've also released new CDs by Mister Neutron, the Neptones, 3 Balls of Fire, and George Tomsco of the Fireballs (re-release). Of these 32 releases, 6 have been vocal.
Green Cookie Records in Greece has released many fine instrumental CDs since their inception and are still going strong (even though their web site is kaput). Same for Twangsville Productions in Finland, though arguably not all of their instro releases are surf (still good stuff).
Didn't know about Golly Gee, but that might explain why Mel has been AWOL.
Rickshaw Records has released a few surf/instro CDs over the last 5 years or so including the very excellent Clash tribute.
Kamikaze Records in Germany has done a lot: http://www.kamikazerecords.de/shop/home.cfm Not strictly surf, though.

Yes, how could I forget the long heralded Fathom's 3rd CD. But that was what, 2 or 3 years ago?
I think the last thing I bought from Saznami was the Sellcancers record.

Rickshaw was going to release some kind of surf music based on countries around the world or something. Did that fall through?

Rick got laid off and put the project on hold until he gets back on his feet. Damn economy!
We recorded a nice song for the comp with a Texas/southwest theme called The Battle of Gonzales. It's about the final battle for Texas' independence. You can hear it on our myspace page.

That kind of goes in with our previous discussion when someone inquired about which labels might be looking for surf bands. The above mentioned bands are/were all pretty big and toured a lot. Build a name for yourself and prove that you can do a lot by yourself, and it'll make you much more marketable to many labels.

That's the way to go. These days, if you wait around for someone to recognize and sign you, you may never have a CD.

Yeah I also thought that the website was gone but here's the link http://musickrecordings.com/catalog.html
Sort of Off-Topic but here goes..... back when I was looking for a copy of Satan's Pilgrims self titled album I asked Ted if he had any extra copies of that album laying around somewhere. And he said that he didn't have any. So then I eMailed Art Barusso and also asked if he had some copies of that album. And he also said that he didn't have any but that he did have a couple copies of Satan's Pilgrims "Creature Feature" on CD for $15. It's a great deal compared to what some folks are selling that album for on eBay. I think someone is trying to sell a copy of that for $50 and it's used. So if anybody still doesn't have a copy of that album and wants one you can ask Art. Oh I also have to add that I asked him about this about a year ago so who knows if he's still got any CDs left.
Back to Topic: There's a label from Spain http://butterfly-records.com/default2.asp that's got a pretty good catalog of Surf. I believe that they only do Vinyl format so they only sell 7's and LP's. And it's not all Surf music they've got a wide selection of music. It's a pretty popular label in Europe I believe.

Yep Roc has put out a bunch of great surf/instro CD's in recent years, but in comparison to their overall output it's a small percentage. Still, it's great that they're so supportive of the genre. Green Cookie is still going but they told me a while back that they were going to stop releasing surf/instro CD's, and would send some of their bands my way if they want to put something out in the future. Sazanami also seems to have slowed their surf output quite a bit (I love just about all of their non-surf releases though!)

There's another Spanish label: El Toro Records, who have a "surf and reverb" series:

We haven't mentioned El Toro yet - they have some great surf/instro releases. Unfortunately, like a few other labels, they haven't put out any surf releases recently.

Oh yeah, and The Aquasonics, too. Forgot about that label.
Speaking of, what's the ETA on the new Thunderchiefs album?

This is a great thread - although I know about all of these labels, it's a good reminder of all of the labels that continue to support surf music, even if the overall output has decreased a bit over recent years. It's also a good reminder to support all of these labels, especially if you can buy direct from them. We all know there's lots of great surf bands throughout the world, but the main reason output has dwindled is due to reduced sales. I run Double Crown as a hobby and basically just need it to break even for me to continue, but other labels don't have that luxury.

Our label is Scatter Records, an independent argentinian label with the Universal Records distribution. But they have a lot of differents rock styles in their catalog, not only surf.

I agree, this is a great thread. Especially for some of us land-locked guys that have nothing near us with a selection to browse.
I hope every newbie can eyeball this. I will try and support any of these and just ordered some stuff thanks to you Brian for starting this.
